Manston Raceway Park goes full Quarter.
11th May 2025

Thanks to Manston Park Raceway's Paul No-Prep Marston for sending this latest press release: MANSTON GOES ¼ MILE LAUNCHES RWYB STREETCAR SHOOTOUT COMPETITION. Paul writes:

Manston Raceway Park, the home of Grass Roots drag racing in the South are proud to announce that their next event June 7th-8th Clash on the Concrete will be a ¼ mile event. We have had the green light from NORA, our sanctioning body and will be a full quarter mile dragstrip from now on.

This is an exciting development, that we have been working hard to make it a reality. When asked Paul Marston said "We needed to gauge the grip levels offered by the surface and get a couple of events under our belts. Before I would be comfortable in running the full quarter of a mile. Clearly we have plenty of run off area, it was just the safety aspect that I wanted to sure of, and our record speaks for itself. We have put some test runs on a ¼ mile distance and have had no stability issues at all, the surface offers good grip. Naturally it is a No Prep surface, so there is a limit, but for RWYB cars and potentially some index/Bracket racing it should be perfect."

MRP have had a lot of requests from local RWYB enthusiasts to run full ¼, so we listened and can now offer it.

We will also be holding an 8 car Streetcar Shootout Competition for all RWYB drivers. Its is completely free to enter, just put your name down during the lunch break if you want to enter. There is no prize money, but there will be some nice trophies. All names will be drawn out of the hat, so its random pairing, all the way thru to the final. So lets see those BMW’s, Audi’s, Golf;s mix it up with the Musclecars and old English tin and see who really is top dog on the ¼ mile.

We will still keep the No Prep to the traditional 1/8th mile, now with no time and no speed, but RWYB will be full ¼ mile with a timing slip.

For more details and to book tickets go to this link and follow our Facebook page by clicking here or call/text Paul on 07831 650230.

JT hopes to win at Doorslammers.
11th May 2025

Pro Modified racer John Tebenham will be returning to the track at next weekend's Doorslammers at Santa Pod, and has ambitions for a strong finish:

If I want to do anything in my career in drag racing, it would definitely be winning The Door Slammers.

We had a great shot a winning the 2024 Euro Finals. All my guys are stepping up this year. I love the draw format. A massive thanks for Keith for putting on this meeting.

Please come and say hello and support us, somebody last year said it’s not that difficult, go buy a 5 second car and come and beat us. Every Pro Mod team deserves full respect, this is a really tough class…… oh yeah, and bloody expensive.

See you next weekend.

Manston Raceway Park - More Money Nationals report and results.
8th May 2025

Thanks to Manston Park Raceway's Paul No-Prep Marston for sending this report on last weekend's More Money Nationals event, Paul writes:  The Mayday Bank Holiday saw the second event at Britain’s newest Grass Roots Drag Strip, Manston Raceway Park, Manston Kent, CT12 5FE. More Money Nationals, hosting Vintage Velocity Drags. The weather kept away, and we got the Friday test day, Saturday and Sunday done, without any incident. There is a real nice, relaxed vibe developing at MRP, plenty of track time and a real grass roots feel to the place.

The classes featured were again Big Tyre, Small Tyre, Tailgate and of course RWYB. Vintage Velocity Drags also had 3 Classes, 4 Banger, Flathead V8 and OHV. With £500.00 posted for the Vintage classes in each category, there was plenty to play for.

Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner for Phill Drewitt, who won both Big and Small Tyre on Saturday, with Chris Skinner as runner-up in Small Tyre in his mighty but diminutive SBC powered Fiat. James Grew was runner-up in Tailgate.

Other winners included Bill Wilson in both Tailgate on Saturday and Small Tyre on Sunday, breaking Phil Drewitts strangle hold on Small Tyre. Steve Giles with his beautiful Chevelle was runner-up in Small Tyre.

One of the comments that we keep getting is that Manston Raceway Park appears to have one of the flattest and smoothest surfaces around. With plenty of mechanical grip available.

It was great to see Dave Crowhurst with his mighty VW Beetle Wanger putting in some test hits, amongst some seriously quick RWYB cars, from about every marquee imaginable. Including a Belgian guy on holiday in his Belgian registered Ford 105E who joined the RWYB!!!

A massive thank you to all our Manston Marshalls and NORA Officials, who performed and conducted themselves very professionally throughout the weekend. These are the comments of the racers and spectators, so credit where credit was due. Having Paul Venners in the tower was a pleasure, we must also mention our lane sponsors John Bean and GB Scaffolding SE and Customville 020 8590 1449, for all your American Car Part needs, stock, or performance, they stock them all and have regular weekly shipments. Support the people who support us. It was lovely to host ex Editor of Eurodragster Tog and his cameras, he certainly gets about, please view his work in the event gallery on Eurodragster by clicking here.

Special mention to Eurodragster sponsor Jeff and Belinda Bull of Jeff Bull Racing Engines. Jeff and Belinda have donated a simply fantastic Merch trailer and a small site trailer for transporting site equipment around. Please thank them next time you see them. We have been simply blown away by so many, regarding the support that we have had from the drag racing community. Use us while you can, we are at present only here for 2025.

All in all, a great weekend was had by all, keep an eye out for some exciting news regarding our next event Clash on the Concrete. 7th-8th June (Friday 6th is team arrival and testing day).

For more information, please follow our facebook at this link, for tickets and more information please check our website Manstonracewaypark.com or call Paul 07831 650230.

Lastly all the racers and spectators who support us, thank you.

PRO ET Festival of Power 2025 Report.
8th May 2025

Thanks to Debbie Clarke for sending in this report from the Festival of Power, report by Brett Featherstone (AKA Nova Skotia) Brett writes:

Round 2: and the season is already showing early potential for newcomer Charlie Seward who comes out in Q1 and absolutely nails it with an 8.8506 to cement his place at the top of the ladder .0006 off dial and that is going to take some serious luck to get around.  3 racers take a big step in the right direction all with .00 numbers Nick Mugridge, Adrian Portelli and John Bean. 5 - 15 with .0 something to make it a great start to qualifying.

39 teams make Q1 with another new racer to the class Gavin Jackson sitting on the bump spot.  Tough breakouts for championship contesters Jess Bishop -0.004. Stevie Gates -0.01 followed by Bill Wilson, Jack McClure and Paul Marston.

Charlie Seward takes the Hayley Hadfield Perfect ET Award, thank you Andy Hadfield.

Q2Susie McClure has the best attempt at knocking Charlie off the top spot with a .001 off dial run, well done team McClure.  Paul Marston jumps from unqualified to No. 6 with a .009 off dial, Rory Hart jumps up to No. 9 with a .01 and now the top 22 are all .0 something.  Dave Cherrett now on the bump spot and 42 racers have now made qualifying passes.  Jess, Jack, Stevie and Bill still no improvements and with unexpected rain we are now done for the day.

Q3.  With the rain effecting qualifying yesterday this looks to be a final qualifying run, so all to play for especially the 10 outside the field currently.  Amy Watkins makes a nice move to No. 7 with a .009 off dial, Tom Kaye moves into the show at No. 22, Jess Bishop makes a vital move into No. 26 and the .0 somethings go to number 30, with last events OAP winner Bob Molden just in on the bump.  The list not qualified just shows how tough this class is becoming.  Geoff Cowley, Roy Walker, Stevie Gates, Ian King (multiple time top fuel bike champion) Jason Pickett, Ronnie Mercer (DRU European 2024 Champion), Gavin Jackson, Pete Creswell (Multi event winner in Super Gas and Super Comp) Jack McClure and Bill Wilson.

The Ladder is now set for Sunday morning Round 1 Eliminations.

E1.  First out Mason Griffith and I in the amazing John Bean loan car, double breakout as the track is top form.  Husband and wife match-up next on as Susie goes red meaning Doug might get a dinner later after all! Double breakout again as OAP Bob gets a break as Laura goes red, Collin Morrice cuts a light on Hans Van der spek for the win, Charlie Seward goes -0.01 red, runs 0.01 off dial to give Dave Cherrett the win, Rory Hart takes a holeshot win over Jess Bishop who runs .008 off dial, Marc Huxley goes red first over Dave Rudd to give Dave the win light, John Bean closer to dial takes the win over Don Scott, Adrian Portelli beats Leigh Morris in a super close race, Billy Everitt beats a super unlucky breakout by Darren Huxley -0.001, Neill Watkins goes red to give Nick Mugridge the win.  Simon Innes goes red as does Vic Parsons and Vic goes through.  Tom “Cherry” Watkins goes GREEN but breaksout to give Matthew Dowdy the breakout win by the lesser amount.  Stuart “Kiwi” Thompson in another double breakout takes the win over Marie Mills, Amy Watkins breaks out against Rouven Dawson who runs 0.006 off dial for the win and finally Tom Kaye cuts a great light to beat Paul Marston.

E2 Billy Everitt goes .004 light as Rouven Dawson sees red, Dave Rudd breaksout giving OAP Bob the circle honours, Mason Griffiths breaksout by a tiny margin again giving John Bean the win.  Doug McClure beats a breakout by Rory Hart, Nick Mugridge beats Matthew Dowdy with a closer to dial finish, Dave Cherrett goes 0.001 on the tree but Vic Parsons goes around him at the top end.  Collin Morrice goes -0.01 breakout to give Adrian Portelli the win and Stuart “Kiwi” Thompson cuts a great light to beat Tom Kaye with an identical ET dial difference +0.0166.

E3.  Stuart “I’m on fire this weekend” Thompson goes 0.01 on the tree to take out Doug McClure, Nick Mugridge goes 0.01 off dial again to beat Billy Everitt, Vic Parsons goes red to give John Bean a red-light victory and OAP Bob goes -0.001 red ouch!! To give Adrian Portelli a sleepy 0.455 reaction the win.

Semi-final time and the Nostalgia Superstock Racers have shown their true colours but only one will advance to the final and what a great race, with almost identical reaction times Stuart taking the narrowest win margin.  John Bean goes -0.007 red to give Nick Mugridge the win.

Final Stuart Thompson vs Nick Mugridge

Stuart taking the win ending a great weekend show from Nostalgia Superstock.

Pioneer Stories - Beadle Brothers Part 3.
7th May 2025

The British Drag Racing Historians are proud to present Beadle Brothers Part 3:

Tony and Don Beadle played a big part in British Drag Racing and this last part of their story kicks off in 1974 when Tony set up the British Flathead Racers Association and worked towards running a Flathead Eliminator in the UK. Tony was always looking for a cheap way to race and built an Econo Dragster in the early ‘80s then formed the Rover V8 Challenge Series. In the early 1990s Tony finally hung up his helmet to focus on his journalism role.

Mick Gleadow has been in touch with Don Beadle and Tony’s widow Jennie gathering information along with his own memories of the Beadle brothers to write these stories. Edited by Nick Pettitt.

Santa Pod's - The Main Event brings top racers from Europe and America.
6th May 2025

Santa Pod Raceway announced this press release on Friday 2nd May - "SANTA POD’S ‘THE MAIN EVENT’ BRINGS TOP RACERS FROM EUROPE AND AMERICA" Drag racers from 16 European countries plus the USA will gather at Santa Pod Raceway over late May’s Spring Bank Holiday weekend to contest the opening round of 2025’s FIA/FIM European Championships. With an entry list approaching 300-strong, The Main Event encompasses competition for national as well as international title chases, with classes ranging from youngsters piloting Junior Dragsters and Dragbikes all the way up to the fastest two- and four-wheeled adult machinery on the planet.

300mph Top Fuel Dragsters are the quickest and fastest of them all. Switzerland’s Jndia Erbacher defends the 2024 crown she snatched dramatically by winning the season’s final two races. Erbacher renews on-track hostilities with Sweden’s speed queen, Susanne Callin, whom she narrowly beat to the title. In performance terms, the two are closely matched, each with 3.8-second, 320mph personal bests. Among the opposition, Britain’s Liam Jones returns to international competition after five years’ absence, having limbered up at last month’s Easter event.

The Pro Modified contest brings another chance to see the remarkable Estonian racer, Andres Arnover, in action. The Main Event combines the opening FIA Pro Mod Championship round with round two of the Motorsport UK British Drag Racing Championship. Arnover already leads the UK points after winning round one at Easter with the quickest Pro Mod elapsed time achieved in Europe, 5.695sec, dipping beneath the 5.7sec barrier which few others have even approached. Arnover already holds Santa Pod’s Pro Mod speed record at 254.86mph. Another 250mph-plus racer is the defending FIA champion, Finland’s Jere Rantaniemi, who scooped the crown with a final-round victory over Britain’s Andy Robinson last September at the European Finals. Both will figure in the 16-strong international field of racers bidding to overcome the turbocharged Estonian.

Aside from the other FIA classes – Pro Stock, Top Methanol – the Funny Car Cup is led by a Texan record setter. When 1960s American racers began cramming nitro-burning dragster engines into saloon-style cars, someone quipped that these machines looked ‘kinda funny’, and the name stuck – funny peculiar, not funny ha-ha. At Easter, Texas veteran Terry Haddock set new European Funny Car marks at 4.124sec/307.88mph en route to victory. Like Top Fuel Dragsters, the wild-handling Funnies race over 1,000 feet instead of the classic quarter-mile, for safety reasons. Britain’s Steve Ashdown will be Haddock’s chief opposition.

On two wheels, the FIM European Championship brings entries in Top Fuel Bike, nitro SuperTwin, Pro Stock and Super Street bikes. The Main Event’s supporting programme includes full fields of UK championship car and motorcycle classes.

The Main Event 2025 takes place from Friday 23rd to Monday 26th May at Santa Pod Raceway, near Wellingborough NN29 7XA, with a wide range of off-track entertainments complementing the racing action. Full event details are available at https://santapod.co.uk/main-event.php.

Book in advance, online at https://santapodtickets.com/p/mainevent or by telephoning the Box Office at 01234 782828. Paddock access is free for a close-up view of all the pitside action.

Festival of Power Report Force of Nature.
1st May 2025

Thanks to Force of Nature rider Graham Sykes for sending in this fantastic report from the Festival of Power, Graham write: What a fantastic bank holiday weekend at the Festival of Power at Santa pod with the Force of Nature Steam Rocket Bike.

Friday we ran around 6.00 pm and unfortunately I headed straight for the wall on the launch with a 0.75 second 60 ft and had to peddle the rockets power to avoid the left hand wall . So we coasted to a 6.3 1/4  Saturday we faired a little better and ran a 0.74 second 60 ft and just as I went past the grandstand around 175 mph a gust of wind took me and I had to lift again for 0.4 seconds so spoiled the run and coasted to a 6.1 second 1/4.

Sunday however was great weather and we were called to the line around 3.00 pm . And ran a 0.73 second 60 ft and 1.99 second 330ft. 3.2 second 1/8th and 6.05 second 1/4. That’s my personal best and the bikes fastest 1/4. The fastest ever run for a steam powered vehicle and one of the fastest runs ever to the 1/8th at Santa Pod .

The commentators Darryl Bradford and Colin Theobald said they cannot think of any other vehicle that has run sub 2 seconds 330ft . We are soooooo close to running a 5 second 1/4. And all this with the small rocket motor. With 88 litres of water and 1.9 seconds of power.

Really looking forward to getting the big motor finished later this year with 110 litres of water and up to 3 seconds of power! We damaged a few valve seats with having to shut off a few times so that’s the next problem trying to locate some seats in time .Next meeting is Melbourne 10-11th May see you there. Thanks go to Santa pod for all your help and support.

Daniel Madeira Festival of Power report.
1st May 2025

Thanks to Comp Bike racer Daniel Madeira for sending in this report from the Festival of Power at Santa Pod Raceway, Daniel writes:  First of all, I would like to thank you for the hard work you do covering every single event. Festival of Power was our first event on the comb bike after moving from 8.5, and we think we've found our class for now.

Racing against very competitive riders gave us the motivation to push the bike and fine-tune it after every run, resulting in PB's after PB's this weekend. On test day, we managed a new PB of 7.52 at 188 mph. After qualifying in 6th with another PB of 7.44 at 195.56 mph, we achieved yet another PB of 7.40 at 195.56 mph in the first elimination round against Pete Slater. In round 2 against G. Dance, we run  7.47. In round 3 against M. Piggott, who was in top form running 7.2, we knew it was hard to beat, so we did our best to get him of the line  but it was not enough; however, we pulled another PB of 7.38 at 197.08. We're looking forward to the next racing meeting with some upgrades.
