Happy Birthday for today to Pro ET racer Dave Rudd and Comp Bike racer John McLean Snr, we hope you both had a great day.
Thanks to sponsor John Tebenham for sending his thoughts before setting off for the FIA/FIM-E European Finals being held at Santa Pod Raceway on 5th-8th September.
All loaded and ready to push the limits. I.C.E. have got both engines ready. Robinson Race cars have got both cars ready. I really do think this meeting could be a great one. I’m bringing the world. What could possibly go wrong. Massive thanks to Signseen for helping this weekend. Some times it’s tough on your own.

A really big shout out to Jean who crashed in Hockenheim, what a great guy. Come and see us and say hello. Big thanks to Keith for putting this great show on. JT. PS I really wish I was watching this one.
Santa Pod Raceway have released this news update on the FIA/FIM EUROPEAN FINALS which is to be held at Santa Pod Raceway 5th-8th September 2024.

Three races in a five-week span decide the destinations of the FIA and FIM European Drag Racing Championships. August’s races at Tierp in Sweden and Hockenheim in Germany are completed and now the focus falls on Santa Pod Raceway. Race teams from across the continent will descend on the renowned venue on the Bedfordshire-Northamptonshire border to settle matters at the European Finals (5th–8th September).
Title contests on two and four wheels are underpinned by a national championship racing programme, while away from the track there’s an array of entertainments designed for family appeal.
Diversity is a drag racing watchword. Where else in motorsport can you find the range of machines and men (and women, and children!) combined in a single international event? Cars share the programme with motorcycles while budding stars of the future competing in the Junior Dragster and Junior Dragbike classes – nearly as many girls as boys, all racing head-to-head without gender distinction – race down the same track as their adult counterparts. Seventeen nations are represented on the 270-strong entry list, including a pair of entrants from the USA, and there is free paddock access to watch them all close-up in pitside action.
The president of the Malta Motorsport Federation leads the way among the mighty Top Fuel Dragsters. Duncan Micallef, alias ‘The Maltese Lion’, already has one FIA Top Fuel championship to his name, earned in 2017, and looks set for his second provided he can fend off the challenge of Sweden’s Susanne Callin, championship runner-up for two seasons and eager to go one better now. Micallef set a new European speed record at 321.40mph during August’s Swedish race at Tierp. Swiss star Jndia Erbacher, herself a former European record holder, scored her maiden FIA victory at Hockenheim this past weekend piloting a Monster Energy-backed car blessed with the improbable nickname Jasmine.
Finland’s Tommi Haapanen resumes his driving career after tuning his wife Anita Mäkelä to four FIA Top Fuel championships and 2023’s FIA Top Methanol champion, Norwegian Linn Fløysvik, makes a second Top Fuel start two weeks after her Hockenheim debut.

A three-way struggle among Pro Modified’s fast and furious, 250mph ‘doorslammers’ pits the Netherlands’ David Vegter against Andres Arnover (Estonia) and Jere Rantaniemi (Finland). Vegter, twice a championship runner-up in his supercharged Camaro, has battled for years to transcend his ‘young heir-apparent’ image. Arnover and Rantaniemi are Pro Mod newcomers by comparison. Should either succeed in thwarting the Dutchman’s ambition, he will become the first turbocharged runner to claim the Pro Mod crown.

Sharing the track with the FIA Pro Mods is the penultimate round of the Motorsport UK British Drag Racing Championship – two Pro Mod championships rolled into a single race. Reigning champion, Bedfordshire’s Bobby Wallace, bids to defend his title against Hampshire’s multi-champion Andy Robinson. The chase will conclude at the National Finals a fortnight hence.
FIA title chases in Top Methanol and Pro Stock are all but decided, but there is the prestige of race victory still to be sought.
American participation comes in two high-powered, nitro-burning non-championship contests. A new addition to the nitro Funny Car ranks is a Toyota-bodied machine fielded by British owner Rob Elsom and driven by Texas veteran John Hale. The car’s name? One Bad Texan. Meanwhile Randy Bradford and his Fiat Topolino-bodied Fuel Altered return to continue the match race against Britain’s Nick Davies and his Havoc Austin Bantam which so burnished July’s Dragstalgia historic event.
On two wheels, nitro is the fuel of choice for the Top Fuel Bikes and the Super Twins. The blown four-cylinder Top Fuelers, such as Rikard Gustafsson’s astonishing 260mph multi-championship mount, emit an ear-drilling screech at full chat while the two-pot Super Twins growl and bark at the lower end of the register. Denmark’s Marcus Christiansen leads the Super Twin field while Sweden’s Per Bengtsson returns to Santa Pod after 13 years’ absence with his thundering machine, The Beast.
Pro Stock Bikes and Super Street Bikes also contend for their respective FIM-Europe crowns.
A special Euro Finals feature is Friday evening’s ‘twilight’ session in which the Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars join forces with the event’s exhibition Jet Cars to light up the dusk in spectacular fashion, topped by a full-scale firework display.

Away from the track, the weekend’s family attractions include Monster Truck and stunt driving and riding shows in the Live Action Arena, a static display of historic dragsters, funfair rides and a variety of children’s entertainments, and even helicopter pleasure rides. The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s WW2 Lancaster is scheduled to fly past on Sunday.
The FIA/FIM European Finals 2024 takes place from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th September at Santa Pod Raceway, near Wellingborough NN29 7XA. Full event information is available at this link and tickets may be booked online there or by telephoning 01234 782828 – advance booking only, no tickets available on the gate.

After the successful LCB Summer Shootout last July seeing many personal bests under the lights, the anticipation for the final part of the season will be huge. MDRA will be hosting Round 4 of the 2024 championship as the Valvoline Fall Nationals commence from the 27th-29th September, with an additional test day on Thursday 26th to be held if the minimum entry sign-on is reached.
Many teams who missed the night race will be back gaining more points for the championship, also testing any new stuff they may have been building or changing along the summer, mainly in preparation for the much awaited November Finals (14-17 November), which is expected to be another full house sold out event like all previous years.
Imports and V8 dragsters expected to go head-to-head, Bikes from 8.50, Superstreet, to all out Pro Extreme Turbo bikes running in the 6s at 200mph, high horsepower doorcars capable to go 6s, and also our very own Escort Class will be present. The Valvoline Fall Nationals promising to be the perfect build-up for the November Finals week.

Congratulations to Andres Andover for his win at NitrOlympX, Andres has sent in this racer report, Andres writes: Hockenheim was fantastic for the team and I. Santa Pod round one we got to semifinals, but the race was cancelled because of the rain. Round two the car rolled too far on the line, and we went red. Round three was again good qualification and we finished 2nd, but in elimination round two we suffered an issue with the boost controller causing the boost going too high. This resulted in our tires to spin.

Before Hockenheim we manged to get a new boost, controller and car is working great without big problems. We qualified in the top spot number one and won the race. Track was tricky due the extreme heat and with turbos it is extremely hard to gain boost.
Elimination round one came, and we ran the same tune as qualifying session three, 5.96 and it worked well. Sunday morning the track and weather was exceptionally good once again. Elimination round two we had a solo run, so we pushed the car even more to see what the track limits are like. But we had to lift after two seconds. In elimination round 3, we took a step back, but it got hotter, and I needed to pedal once again, then I still took a win.
Elimination round four with Bruno Bader we decided to change the set up to a safe tune and we made great A to B run 5.95 @381km/h.
We are happy that car works great, and our hard work paid off. Now we need to strip the car and make fresh again before next weekend to be ready for the Euro Finals. Let's hope the track and weather is great for us to make some great runs and results at Santa Pod Raceway.
We would like to Thank all our crew, family and friends who has helped us make each event possible.

Many thanks to Frank Oberle for sending in the weekend's pictures from the 37th NitrOlympX. you can see all the pictures at this link, supported by John Woolfe Racing.

Thanks to Remco Scheelings from www.dragracingeurope.eu for letting Eurodragster.com know on this latest release on the FIA website: Newly-formed consortium comprised of representatives of drag racing venues and organisers is set to become the FIA European Drag Racing Championship’s first-ever promoter, providing the series with a stable base for growth and expansion

Drag Racing Europe AB (DRE) was founded by representatives of venues hosting championship events, namely Santa Pod Raceway, along with Scandinavian Drag Racing promoter/organiser, Speedgroup AB.
The agreement between the FIA and DRE covers an initial term of three years, coming into force this season, with the short-term goals being stabilisation of the championship by providing it with conditions for growth, along with making it sustainable both financially and environmentally.
The class structure currently in use in the FIA EDRC will remain unchanged, maintaining Top Fuel, Top Methanol, Pro Modified and Pro Stock classes, but with the creation of a junior class being among the longer-term goals.
The appointment of a promoter should also result in increased media coverage of FIA EDRC, with a dedicated website as well as social media and streaming channels due to be launched.
In order to create a forum for discussion about future strategic development of the sport of drag racing, a championship committee, comprising of representatives of the FIA and the promoter, will also be created and will report to the FIA Drag Racing Commission.
Lars Pettersson, FIA Drag Racing Commission President, said: “I am genuinely delighted with the appointment of a promoter for the FIA EDRC. This should lead to increased professionalism of every aspect of the championship, bringing certain uniform standards across the events. There are also plenty of fascinating stories within the FIA EDRC that are worth telling, such as the considerable success of female competitors over the years, and now, with the right promotion in place, people should finally be able to hear these stories.”
Michael Gullqvist, CEO of DRE, said: “It’s great that we have finally reached this point with an agreement, it will enable us to further develop the FIA EDRC. Our goal is to improve the championship and promote it to a higher level, to the benefit of both competitors and fans.”
Keith Bartlett, Chairman Drag Racing Europe AB, said: “With the new contract for the promotional and commercial rights to the FIA European Drag Racing Championship, we will look to develop the Championship in all areas, including helping the track promoters to improve the structure of the Championship rounds, the marketing and promotion of the Championship and, more importantly, seeking commercial and partnership opportunities.”
Thanks to Remco Scheelings from autosport.nl for these race reports from the 37th NitrOlympX at Hockenheim, Germany.
Drag racing: NitrOlympX lives up to its reputation once again
The NitrOlympX, round four of the five-race FIA European Drag Racing Championship, has a reputation for no edition being boring. The 37th performance also lived up to this status. It went from extremely hot to ideal racing conditions, records and a car were broken, there were many exciting runs but there was also the occasional anticlimax. Joy and sorrow were close together again. At the Rico Anthes Quartermile of the HockenheimRing, the Top Fuel class resulted in a victory for 'local hero' Jndia Erbacher. In the Pro Modified class, the win went to Andres Arnover, with which the Estonian brought back the excitement in the title race. In this class, David Vegter set a new track record. In the Top Methanol class, Jonny Lagg strengthened his leading position in the championship with a second consecutive victory, while in the Pro Stock class Jimmy Ålund maintained his unbeaten status with a third win in a row and the Swede can hardly escape his 13th Pro Stock title.

Dragracing: Behind the scenes of the 37th NitrOlympX
The NitrOlympX, the German round of the FIA European Championship Drag Racing at the Rico Anthes Quartermile of the HockenheimRing, has come to an end. How this fourth match of the title race went and who walked away with the biggest trophies can be read elsewhere on AUTOSPORT.nl. Here's a quick look back at some other things that caught the eye in the pits, on the track or around the Motodrom.

Happy Birthday for today to Bob Morgan, the driver of the B Sting wild bunch Topolino altered, Pro ET racer Jess Bishop, Williams Bros Racing crew member Lorne Denny, Nostalgia Superstock racer Pete Christmas, and rotary racer James Willday. We hope you all have a great day.
Thanks to Bob Roberts for letting us know on this news: Robinson Race Cars Pro Mod Camaro Takes Center Stage in Hoonigan’s Latest Grudge Race at Santa Pod Raceway, In an exciting showcase of raw horsepower and engineering mastery, the team at Robinson Race Cars recently had the opportunity to feature their Pro Mod Camaro in a Hoonigan video series filmed, you can read the full story by clicking here.
We are sad to report that Brian Gibson, builder of the pioneering altered Ford Pop 'Wild Thing' that raced at Santa Pod in the track's first seasons, passed away on 9th August.
Using copies of Hot Rod magazine as a guide and the 1964 International Drag Festival at Blackbushe as inspiration, Brian and best mate Bob Venison built Wild Thing in his dad's garage for the princely sum of £127. It was based on a '55 Ford Pop that was bought from a scrapyard for £10, a sum that was recouped when they sold the car's engine and gearbox on for the same amount. In its first incarnation it was fitted with a Jag XK motor from a Mark X, while later it used a fuel-injected small-block.
Brian and Bob went their separate ways, but Brian carried on with Wild Thing for a few more years before turning to crew duties for Tony and Don Beadle, as well as other drivers through the 1970s.
Eurodragster chronicled Wild Thing in 2022 with two articles where Brian told the story which can be found by clicking this links:
Brian had a leg amputation in 2021 and was diagnosed with Parkinson's in December 2023. The disease saw him progressively deteriorate over the past few months, although he still retained an interest in the drags, especially in the US.

His funeral takes place on Thursday 29 August, 12:30pm at Chelmsford Crematorium.
We have also set up a donation page in dad’s memory ask for donations to Parkinson’s.org.uk, which you can donate by click this link.
We here are eurodragster.com are sadden and send our condolences to his family and friends at this very sad time.
Thanks to Colin Theobald for a write up about the Silverstone Festival, Colin writes: What a weekend that was at the Silverstone Festival. I’m so proud of the Drag Racing and Hot Rod family that put on an amazing display over the last 3 days. It was our second year putting this together and the diversity of machinery on offer was phenomenal.

It was a delight to have Rob Brown & Peter Brown along with Hayley Fyfe and Natalie Long with us for a second year, their display keeps on getting better each time and are such great ambassadors for our sport. Also back was Wayne Allman and Helen Allman with support from Lee Pike & Donna Sayce making everyone scratch their heads thinking what is that when they tried to figure out what Mental Breakdown was all about. They got it when the fire-ups commenced and my only video I took over the whole weekend with a special guest in the hot seat.
Simon Prest & Jason Pickett represented the Gasser Circus and had a great time, I loved their side-by-side fire-ups, and I could see in their faces that they were both ready to go into stage and race. Lee Johnstone and the whole family brought Volvo Gasser - Ain't No Saint along to the show and boy does that car deserve respect. It was great telling the crowd the Hot Wheels story and of course everyone now knows why it certainly Ain’t no saint!!! I took Bruce along, but numpty here got home on Friday and somehow left the ignition on overnight so flat battery in the morning meant I couldn’t start the car but put it on charge and back on Sunday.
Fortunately, I only live 5 miles away so no problem. Also suffering from a flat battery was Kevin Jenkins with the Fraudster but that was right at the end of the weekend. The noises made from the escort were simply crazy and that was with a ‘softer’ tune up. Kev still took it up to 6000rpm and the pops and bangs caught everyone out. Matt Davison & Rach Davison represented FWD with their Mr. Boost Honda Civic. Matt isn’t known as Mr. Boost for nothing, his fire-ups were at full chat. It was amusing watching the crowd as the engine was on low revs warming up, yes, so what…. nothing special here…. then it was jeeeeees what as the full boost came in and wow, that got their attention. Loved it. Chris Todd & Jo Peters with Fiestaroo also confused many visitors and I’m so glad they positioned the car with the rear facing the crowd. The engine & turbo in the back made for a great talking point and the performance figures made everyone take notice.
The Huxley’s put on a great display, with Marc Huxley’s Toyota Corolla and Lee Huxley with the Mustang, not forgetting Andy Walker and of course Brian Huxley who got a surprise when he was in Mental Breakdown for one of the fire-ups. Marc & Lee started their cars together with Lee having a member of the public in the passenger seat. Great P.R. Great fun, cheers guys. Lorraine Large & Trevor Large had Flossi the Nurse Drag Racing VW Beetle on display. Trev and Lorraine are such a joy to have around, so eager, so helpful especially with our Lucas Oils Junior Dragster competition. Love you guys, thank you for being you.
Talking of Junior Dragsters, Kai & Jake Cooper with Andy Fensome and Mum Zoe Fensome had their cars there along with Grace Smith. These youngsters were just brilliant, letting kids get in the cars and really promoting the scene superbly. We also had a fantastic competition with the kids testing their reaction times on the porta tree. The winner each day gets to have a Junior Dragster Day at Santa Pod with a possibility to license in the car and take part in a race meeting.

An amazing prize and we were inundated with contenders and congratulations to our daily winners, yep, a winner each day and boys, you must try harder as it was 3 out of 3 for the girls. I’ve got to say a huge thank you here to Santa Pod for the loan of the Junior Dragster and Porta tree, the kids activity packs and the brilliant backdrop and to Lucas Oil Products UK for your unwavering support and sponsorship for the competition, we all think it went down extremely well looking at the queues of kids waiting to have a go. 3 perfect lights as well over the event!!!
Top Fuel dragsters are a bit hard to get hold of when there is an FIA event in Germany taking place at the same time, so to represent what many think a dragster is we had Aaron Fensome’s Super Pro dragster on the stand. It gave me a chance to talk about the insane numbers with speed, acceleration, fuel, you name it. Using Aaron’s car really helped me get this across to the crowds. Victoria Louise Smith represented Street Eliminator with the Boost Monkey Buick. I love that car and to do a reveal of the engine bay prior to each start was priceless. 2600hp on show with those twin turbos and crazy pipe work was so entertaining. I know the team had a great weekend, loved having you there. Brett Featherstone with his Pro ET Nova Scotia teamed up with John Bean’s pair of Shotgun Mustangs. The whole team just didn’t stop smiling all weekend and were handing out leaflets, putting people in the cars and being great ambassadors for the sport. Brett’s easy-up marquee canopy was our only casualty during the high winds, but Brett & Debs did produce ponchos for sale if they were blue!!!
Remember Flame & Thunder last year with the Dancing Diggers? Well we were delighted to have the JCB GT join in with us to make some noise. What a great bit of kit that is and it certainly wasn’t out of place with us there, in fact it was a great tie-in.

For the first at the show we had the bikes represented. Craig Wright bought his championship contending 8.50 machine and with Kat Rudd they promoted themselves superbly. The bike looks so sharp, made me chuckle every time Craig fired the bike up and when bring the revs up, he crouched down as if he were about to launch!!! We had not 1 but 2 Top Fuel bikes with Ryan Davidson and Phil Crossley bringing their Nitro bikes along. Over 1000hp each these bikes were just jaw dropping, especially when Ryan whacked the throttle open and made everyone jump. The guys were inundated with questions all event long and total respect to these 2 guys, fair to say i think you left a lasting impression.
Talking of Nitro, this was our first year entertaining the crowds with our magic ingredient. The fuel of Gods didn’t go unnoticed, Simon Hayward and the Houndog Nostalgia Funny Car were a huge talking point of the event with the team performing two superb fire-ups on Sunday.
Simon and the team were fielding questions all event long and to see the new team work together was great. I look forward to the car running into the 6’s and they certainly deserve some great numbers.
What can you say about our final team here, Patrik Pers, Mark Bodimeade, and the gang, yep, we had the Speedghost Motorsport Fuel Funny Car team with us. O…M…G!!! We had to break Silverstone in gently as we all knew what that car and team were capable of. Softly on day one, keeping everyone back but by Sunday, we allowed the crowds closer!!! The crowds on Sunday were huge (should have been Saturday as well but the weather was just horrible, even the circuit action was affected) and the team blew everyone away with their first fire up on Sunday with a proper throttle whack. I’m know for sure everyone, and I mean everyone at the event heard it as we had people come over later that were in the Copse grandstand saying they heard it loud & clear, that’s the other side of the circuit!!
Their second show was just as awesome and in front of a huge gathering. It’s fascinating watching and getting people’s reaction to these monsters, yep, they loved it. They had so many visitors and I absolutely loved having the team there…. you guys rock.
We couldn’t have pulled this all together without the team’s willingness to come along. We couldn’t put on the show we did this year without the phenomenal support from everyone at Santa Pod Raceway. We had an idea or 2 and it worked and to have the support of our second home was appreciated. I hope we represented the sport well and if we can get just 1% of the people that seen us come to the European Finals then we’re going to need bigger grandstands!!!

There is one person however that without his sheer dedication, the hours put in, the hoops he jumped through, you name it…. well, it just wouldn’t have happened or if it did, it would have been a poor attempt. Tim Hinchcliffe, take a bow.

The hours you and I had on FaceTime planning this event over the last 8 months, the emails we both sent but I had the easy job of getting the teams. You had the paperwork, the tickets, the negotiating, the camping, the electrics, the vehicle passes…. the list goes on. I think the racing family and of course the Hot Rod family as Tim organised that whole side of our content as well, owe you a large drink but don’t have it all at once….
I honestly loved it, I’m tired, shattered, exhausted but would I do it again…. probably but not for a few days eh!!
Oh….and just in case you didn’t already know we were aware were awarded with the Mervyn Garton Scarf & Goggles Award for the best off-track visitor attraction. That means so much to us and I’m so proud of what we achieved.
The European Finals 2024 for me in just 9 days’ time, look forward to seeing you and hopefully loads of newbies there.
The British Drag Racing Historians are proud to present part four of the Wally Parks stories. Originally posted on the 26th January. In today's extract of Wally Parks detailed journal relating to the First British International Drag Festival Wally takes a look at the race meetings and as Wally says... ‘The wide open airfields were reminiscent of the early 1950s in the United States, and often cows grazed next to the airfields. You can see the official elimination ladders at this link. In a dramatic Saturday during the fourth round of qualifying there was a nasty accident with Jean Dulamon. He went sideways and crashed into the wall before rolling down the track. Jean was able to get out of the car on his own and was okay and alert. So lucky he had no injuries, Jean was taken to the local hospital for checks. Later we was released. We hope Jean all the best and hope to see him and the car back out soon.

Jndia Erbacher, Jonny Lagg, Andres Arnover and Jimmy Ålund winners at NitrOlympX
Jndia Erbacher raced to victory in the Top Fuel final of the NitrOlympX, round four of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at the Rico Anthes Quartermile of the HockenheimRIng. In Pro Modified Andres Arnover claimed his first win of the season by defeating Bruno Bader. In the Top Methanol final Jonny Lagg was too quick for A-Fuel Team Sweden teammate Tony Bryntesson and extended his lead in the championship. In Pro Stock Jimmy Ålund remained undefeated and claimed his third winner’s trophy of the season.

Thanks to Nitro Revival sponsor Geoff Stilwell for sending in part 2 of his report on his trip to Bonneville Speedweek earlier in August:
Right…where was I …ah yes, sunny skies and extremely high temperatures for the week ahead.
Saturday dawned clear and sunny. The plan was to get out to the track early, warm the motor up and get in line but first we had the drivers meeting and an update on the condition of the salt.
Well, the warmed the motor and pulled down ….and so did about 200 other racers. We just had to wait it out unfortunately. Unlike other years the SCTA for whatever reason decided not to have a 200mph lane but now it’s only vehicles going over 300mph…of which there is only about 12 cars. Anyway…our turn came around 2pm….my first pass of the week.
Driver error as I came off the truck to early with not enough revs on the motor which caused the backend to step out but I got it saved and off I went. Now one of our issue is the amount of fuel 7707 can use during a run. The plan was run to the 3 mile marker and then we can measure and work out the fuel flow. My first pass was 256mph by the 3rd mile. Good but not good enough. By the time we got back to the pits we had decided to service the car and get it ready for an early run on Sunday.

An early start and we were out on the salt by 6.30am. A quick run through and warm the motor. Nothing like a waft of nitro at 7.15am….it certainly wakes you up. Then, thanks to Kevin, a quick breakfast and get in the line to run. Again even though we were in line by 8.30 we didn’t run until nearly 1 pm. The temperature on the start line was 98.1F with humidity at 19% and a corrected altitude of 7,572 ft. This was a good pass. 206.950mph by the 2nd mile..then 258.00 by the 3rd and 276.767mph by the 4th. We had just broken the record by 20 mph. There was a lot of whooping and hugging when the push truck got to me some 5 miles away. The big question was…do we go to impound and wait till first this the next day or ask to see if we can do a backup run later that day. It was a big ask.
We got to impound….there we are allowed 4 hours to service the car but as there wasn’t many cars in impound the SCTA would allow us to run for the back up at 4 pm if we wanted to. After discussions between myself, Nick, Rob and Scott we said ok let’s go for it as the forecast for next day was even hotter and the problem is that the hotter it gets the heat then starts to cause the water under the salt to come to the top making it slushy to drive on.
Anyway…we serviced the motor in 1 hour 20 mins in 100F temperatures. I burnt my arm leaning against a trailer …I went to see the SCTA inspectors and told them we were ready to run at 4 pm.
At 3.50 exactly the SCTA President Bill Lattin escorted us down to the start line. It was approaching 5 pm and the start line temperature was 102F. Thank goodness I had my dry chiller waistcoat and my portable air chiller designed and built by Bob Muravez pumping cold air into my firesuit while I waited my turn in the car.

At 5.01pm we were given the signal to start the motor. The 496 Brad Anderson Fuel motor crackled into life on the 70% nitro load going into it. The Chief Starter “Col Ken Carlson” gave the signal that the track was clear. By the 2nd mile I was doing 235.902mph and then by the 3rd 252.724 and by the 4th 278.971mph. The track was starting to go away but tried to stay on the dry part of the track. I hit the chutes and aimed for the blue flags down the side of the shutdown area. Each blue flag has an SCTA support team by it. By the time I stopped the SCTA crew were with me making sure I was ok giving me a water when I got the car.
“Congratulations they say…..what for and I thought I had not gone fast enough to back it up. “You went through at 278.971 he says….you got a 277 average bumping the record by 20 mph.” …then all of a sudden I was surrounded by photographers. The adrenaline was certainly flowing. Then the guys turned up and it was celebrations all round. But we still needed to get the record certified.
So we had to get the car to impound to be tech’d which was 5 miles away. Pulling into impound we were welcomed by the tech inspectors. I presented my timing tickets and completed the paperwork. Then it was the tech guys turn to check the car. They needed to verify the motor size and they do this by a volume checker. But that needed the plugs, rockers and pushrods all taken out. Anyway, after an hour or so and the SCTA checking the car was all legal our record was certified at 277.879mph. Big celebrations all round.

By the time we had then put the car back together and got back to our pit it was nearly 7pm. We were all exhausted but happy. 7707 was put to bed and we headed to the hotel and a celebration dinner.
The topic of conversation that evening was what do we do now….the consensus was to get the car ready and try to push the record up past the 300 mark. So we got up early..again and prepped the car. Everything was all ok. The team of Nick, Rob, Scotty B, Scott C, Pauly and Sebastian did an amazing job in getting it ready.
We towed down and got ready. It was warmer than the previous days and whilst we were waiting it seemed as though every 3rd or 4th car seemed to be having issues going down the track with them spinning out or catching fire causing delay after delay. Eventually our turn came. My instructions from Nick was to do more of the same but get after it as early as I could. We got the signal to start. I left the truck the same as before but the track was quite wet. As I got down towards the 2nd and 3rd mile I could see puddles and the car was getting difficult to keep in a straight line…..I had to pedal the car several times and I lost momentum resulting in a speed of 268mph by the 4th mile.
When I stopped the car and got out the tyres had over 1 inch of salt on them ….not conducive to going fast. Back in the pits a team discussion …. We had reset the record firstly. Gone the fastest it had ever been with still more to come. The team were exhausted and we decided to call it for the week. The guys then serviced the car and we packed the trailer up for the long drive back to Los Angeles.
What’s next….we will be racing at El Mirage the weekend of November 8-10th. Come and join us for some winter sunshine on Saturday and Sunday, after Nitro Revival on Friday 8th, then stay around for the NHRA Finals the following weekend!

Jndia Erbacher, Sandro Bellio, Andres Arnover and Jimmy Ålund number one qualifiers at Hockenheim
It was at least to say a hot and eventful second day of qualifying for the NitrOlympX at the Rico Anthes Quartermile of the HockenheimRing, round four of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Friday leaders Jndia Erbacher (Top Fuel), Sandro Bellio (Top Methanol) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Stock) remained in the number one position, while in Pro Modified Andres Arnover took over the number one spot. So drivers from four different countries will lead their respective categories into today's eliminations.

Gustafsson, Christiansen, Mechaell, Lymant and King hold on on Saturday at the FIM-E NitrOlympX
Well, the predicted hotter temperatures on Saturday at the NitrOlympX, Hockenheimring, Germany were not false, with the track, crew, racers, spectators and press sweltering (and sweating if the truth be told) under the cloudless skies, it was always going to be a question of endurance. Unfortunately, a hefty crash in the car classes and a looming cut off presented by… checks notes… a women’s world championship boxing contest… restricted the FIM-E classes to just a single outing today on the Rico Anthes Quartermile.

Thanks to Scott Collin for sending in this report from the Greenlight Nationals last weekend, Scott writes: Thought I would do a little write up of where we are after such a good meeting at Greenlight Nationals.

Having spoken with Jeff and Belinda Bull back in June at The Sportsman Nationals about the opportunity of joining them in 7.60 Heads Up in 2025, who ever thought we would bring it forward to this year! Watching them run made me think about getting the car retagged at that event, and the process began to get everything legal. With plenty of encouragement from Mark Turner, I went ahead and applied for an MSA license. Once that arrived, things were starting to get real! During the Sportsman Nationals we saw consistent 8.0’s, but I felt the need to hit at least a 7.9 before I felt eligible to join in with the fun
The Ford Show slipped slightly as charge temps began to rise with the weather, so before The Mopar’s, I took a week off work and made some serious changes to the intake. I could see at this event that it had worked with a huge drop in charge temps. Saturday evening I sat on the laptop datalogging and putting in what I felt would hit the all-important number. Boom, first run Sunday morning and we went 7.90 first run, then backed it up with a 7.87@174mph.
We had done it! Less than a week later we were loaded up and heading back up to our second home for the Greenlight Nationals. What a fantastic, packed weekend around a great class this proved to be. My first ever competition heads up style, including a pro tree! First run I decided to switch on a 3rd fuel pump as data logs from The Mopar’s were showing high injector duty cycles. This caused issues that I think were quite likely voltage related as the car almost died mid track. We ran a 10.2@132mph after lifting mid track. Back in the pits, there was nothing to read on the data log to show what had happened. Being the fuel pump switch was the only change, I turned it off and went back out in Q2 to run back into the 7’s with a 7.95@171mph whilst still running the scramble button to bring in 16psi boost out the back half of the track.

This wasn’t going to prove to be a consistent way to run the car, so a few wires later and I ran the boost with a full controlled duty cycle table. Q3 we ran against Mark Turner. He cut a better light by 1/10th but the gap from the start line never grew! On this pass we left with 12psi boost and by 100ft would have been all in at 16psi boost to follow it through to a new PB of 7.66@177mph. Meanwhile Belinda was sat in the burnout box following the run clapping with joy oblivious to Jeff trying to wave her on for the burnout. What a greeting at the end of the track gathering our chutes. Wow what a class. Everyone running from their cars to cuddle and shake hands of applaud! We’d done it. A 7.6 in our first ever 7.60 heads Up event with a 0.17 reaction. A bit sleepy, but I’ll take that for a first Heads Up pro tree experience! For a moment I was 3rd position qualifier.

That was until Belinda ran immediately behind me and knocked me down a peg, or was it two? Sunday morning going into Q4 Monika had told me I needed to back it up. It was there, a 7.68@173mph. These runs had a slight pop out the back doors, most likely still power related, so if I was going to find anything for eliminations, it had to be at the front of the track. A few tweaks to the boost duty ramp and another 100rpm on the two step. There I was, no pressure up against the leader again, Mark Turner. No time to sleep, I cut a 0.08 light against Marks 0.11. Unfortunately, I jolted off the throttle pedal when letting go of the trans brake button and it was game over. All I could do was chase! We ended with a 7.79@175mph lose against Marks 7.62. If only I hadn’t slipped up, would he have broken out with a huge lift at the finish line? That we will never know! Great judging and what a finish for him winning 2024. This class is amazing. Will we be back…..110%
Huge Thanks to Monika Szili for putting up with me and helping throughout the build and 2-year progress. Also, a massive thanks at Greenlight Nationals to my crew Tom Harris and Anais Shephard. Can’t wait to be more competitive next year in this class. Upgrades have already begun with an upgraded alternator and Magnafuel fuel pump. Let’s see what that brings for the back half at HRD’s.

Thanks for Remco Scheelings from Drag Racing Europe for this report from NitrOlympX:
Friday at the NitrOlympX, Hockenheimring, Germany is always a question of easing into the event on the annual visit to the woefully underused Rico Anthes Quartermile. The first qualifying session was something that can largely be overlooked, with a lot of track hiccups, oildowns and delays although the second session was a slight improvement, but the track itself really was baking under the sun.

Thanks for Remco Scheelings from Drag Racing Europe for this report from NitrOlympX:

Jndia Erbacher raced to the provisional number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for the NitrOlympX, the fourth round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at the Rico Anthes Quartermile of the HockenheimRing, Germany. In Top Methanol Sandro Bellio is the leader after two runs, while Stian Rusånes is the surprise leader in Pro Modified. In Pro Stock it was business as usual with Jimmy Ålund in the number one qualifying spot. With a driver from Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden and Norway in the lead, it’s a real European Championship.

Thanks to Nitro Revival sponsor Geoff Stilwell for sending in part 1 of his report on a successful trip to Bonneville Speedweek earlier in August:
You know people say to me, ‘How come you haven’t been faster...you got a top fuel motor in the back of your race car?” My answer is, “get a car and come and try”.
To try and give you some idea on logistics, although the team have only just returned from a very successful Speedweek we are already planning what needs to be done to the race car after the last race of the year which is happening on November 8th-10th at El Mirage just outside Los Angeles.
There are 12 crew who make this happen. We are already arranging flights and hotels. The rig has to have its smog test plus service and replace any worn tyres on the truck or trailer. All the wheel bearings have to be taken apart, cleaned and regreased on the trailer and the race car will have these done before we go to El Mirage. Moving the team around is not easy. We have the Rig, the RV, the Support Truck and Support Vehicle. Make no mistake, this takes planning and commitment.
Moving on to what happened in 2024. As many of you know Mother Nature plus the Covid Pandemic thwarted our plans from 2019 until this year. This year like before the weather seemed to be going our way. Well I am pleased to say that we actually got a full weeks racing. The downside was we now had to deal with extreme temperatures of well over 100F or 38C …in fact the hottest day was 109F which is nearly 43C. Luckily the humidity was no more than 19% and in fact one day it was below 5%. However, the heat really knocks it out of you and it is vital to stay hydrated plus making sure we drank vitamin waters and energy drinks during the day. Even on the first day at the track a good friend of mine who drives a 200mph Camaro had to call the “Pit Paramedic” as he was suffering from acute dehydration. Nothing prepares you for the heat. Ask Rob Loaring, he will explain it in very simple terminology...lol.
Anyway, before we left the race shop in Pomona we decided to refresh the motor...so Rods and Pistons out...checking everything, cleaning it and then reassembling. A quick fire up and we were ready to load the race car in the trailer. At 5am on August 1st we left the shop to make the 700 mile drive to Wendover the nearest town. We actually pulled in to the trailer park behind the hotel at just after 4pm. The plan had been to drop the trailer off in the pits on the salt on Thursday evening but we decided to get out early Friday having had a long day.
So at 8am we rolled onto the salt. It was stunningly white, crisp and clean. In fact it was the smoothest I had seen it since I started going to Speedweek. As a member of the “Land Speed Racers” (L.S.R.) we have our own designated pit area. We parked next to my good friend Charlie Davis the club President and his stunning blue streamliner. After we had unloaded and set the pit up it was time to get 7707 through tech. Because I held the record at over 250mph already it means we get a tougher inspection. So 3 tech inspectors check the cars over with each point being verified by all 3 tech guys. It’s a fairly long process. Helmet, suit 'n gloves all checked as well. After that it was sign on and all the crew have to sign on and get wrist bands. The car also got its 2024 decals for racing.
Back in the pits it was actually a lazy day on the Friday as it was just going through the car and making it ready for the Saturday morning. We finished early and headed to town for dinner and a swim in the hotel pool.
The forecast was for sunny skies and extremely high temperatures all week. Part 2 to follow.
Happy Birthday to Sportsman ET racer and nitrous addict Simon Swarbrick! Hope you have a great day.
Happy Birthday for today to former Top Fuel Bike racer Stephen Carey, VW Pro racer Carl Goldsmith, Gasser Circus racer Jason Hollamby, former Pro Stock Bike racer Elvira Karlsson, former Junior Drag Bike racer and champion Meg Talbot, and drag bike engine guru Roger Upperton. Thanks to Graham Sykes for sending this update to Eurodragster.com, Graham writes: The "Force of Nature" Steam Rocket bike is to return to Melbourne raceway 31st August-1st September for "Thrustfest" alongside Roger Goring's "Firestorm" Jet Funny Car, and Julian Webbs "Spiderman" Jet Dragster.

Latest developments with the "Force of Nature" Steam Rocket Bike...
We are using 2024 as a test year for the new rocket motor which we first tested at Straightliners Speed Week in May at Elvington with particularly good results.
Contrary to what many think, with the new Pressure vessel, we have not gone for larger capacity.... in fact the latest tank is a little smaller than what we ran with in 2023 because of installation constraints.
We have fitted a comprehensive AIM Technologies data acquisition system to the rocket and can now stop guessing what we "think" is happening and confirm what is "actually" happening. The results we have captured make for some interesting analysis.
The main valves are the "Achilles Heel" of any Super-Heated Water Rocket motor as they must withstand remarkably high temperatures and pressures and have not got to fail yet must open and close quickly every time. So testing the new valves and set up was done prior to riding the bike with great success.
The valves were soured and supplied by a great friend and former Hydrogen Peroxide rocket car driver in America, John Alan Hudson, who drove the Texas Starship rocket car, which is now in the Garlitts museum, and has been invaluable to the team with his knowledge and continued help.
The main valves need to open as quickly as possible, and we suspected that the new valve system would open in under 0.5 of a second. In fact with a full pressurised tank and fuel load from the data we have now got, they are opening in 0.18 of a second and this is reflected in the 60 ft times we are now achieving.
The best 60 ft from last year was 0.91 seconds at Santa Pod European Finals, but the new systems best data 60 ft is 0.831 seconds @86 mph giving us 95 mph in the first second. that’s a 0 to 60 mph in 0.56 seconds or 4.75 G force. Similar acceleration to a top fuel car.
According to our data the acceleration is brief lasting only 3 seconds but the 330 time is 2.22 seconds and a 3.41 660 ft@ 185.8 mph so you can see the power is already tailed off by the 1/8th but have still coasted to a 6.1 second 1/4 mile @171mph.

From what we can gather this is the fastest accelerating motorcycle in the world to the 330ft marker. (Please somebody correct me if I am wrong).
The plan now is to develop the nozzles to the new valve flow and continue testing for the rest of 2024 and hopefully go quicker still.

For 2025 CPE Pressure vessels have agreed to manufacture a larger vessel which I have designed with slightly different outlets that will give the bike a calculated 4 seconds of power duration and better power delivery, which should make the bike a 5 second 1/4-mile runner and hopefully crack 200 mph which has always been the target.
Please make yourselves known in our pit area, and we can give you more information on the bike and how it works. If you have never seen the bike run, then you are missing something special. Never underestimate the power of Steam!
Happy Birthday for today to Top Fuel racer Stig Neergaard, Willys Wars organiser and racer Pike Murray, 8.50 Bike racer Dan De'ath and former Pro Stock Bike racer Ray Debben, we hope you all have a great day.

The British Drag Racing Historians are proud to present the Brian Sparrow’s story and history. Originally posted on the 4th March. Today's pioneer story is that of one of the founding fathers of British drag racing, the late Brian Sparrow which you can read by clicking here.
After seeing George Brown’s ‘Nero’ sprint bike at the 1960 Motorcycle Show Brian joined the National Sprint Association, soon becoming Competitions Secretary running the Sprint Meetings. He met Allan Bootsie Herridge and Brian Witty early in 1962 and joined them on a trip to Long Marston with their home-built Chrysler hemi Dragster with plans to take on Sydney Allard in his Chrysler Dragster. Brian then teamed up with Bootsie, John Harrison and Robin Evemy to form Dragster Developments building and running a straight 8 Buick Dragster followed by a state-of-the-art Cadillac slingshot and a smaller Austin powered slingshot.
Brian also joined the British Hot Rod Association and the British Drag Racing Association soon working on the committees of all three associations and was told he would not get away with it, but Brian was able to get along with anybody by simply playing along. As Brian said... “By playing along you would get things done, that was the main thing. Whether you had to prostitute yourself to do it, it got done.”

When Santa Pod opened Brian became a roving reporter in the pits, taking pictures and making notes of every detail and modification to each machine for his regular ‘Scene in the Pits’ writeup in Drag Racing & Hot Rod magazine and as Brian said... “I am in fact obsessive with detail, to the point of being a pain in the ass.”
Brian was always fascinated by Jet and Rocket powered cars and in the 1970s he got involved with Barry Bowles and the two Blonde Bombshell Rocket cars. Brian continued to attend drag races up to his passing in 2023 and was inducted into the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 2011.
This story, told by Brian, was produced by John Hunt and Nick Pettitt and published by Eurodragster.com former editor Simon Groves.
Suze Morris posted yesterday this report on Phil and "Satan's Lady", Suze writes: Last weekend saw the penultimate round of the UK National Drag Racing Championship at Santa Pod Raceway. Greenlight Nationals was an awesome weekend with wall-to-wall sunshine, and every single class stepping up with PBs, Perfect ETs and fantastically close Racing
As always, qualifying in ET Bike was tight, with Phil and "Satan's Lady" going into race day from the 3rd spot. Sunday was warm and windy, and the track was in great condition. There was a big crowd on hand, courtesy of the Monster Truck Nationals, as "Satan's Lady" went through to her 3rd final of the season.
It certainly wasn't an easy journey, but in ET Bike there is never an easy pairing. When we looked at the ladder, we realised that we could potentially go head-to-head with points leader Scott Collier... and that could prove to be crucial if we were to keep any Championship hopes alive.

A first round victory over Patrick Merite, set up a Rd2 meeting with fellow Dutchman Ralvin Petronilia. A second win light and there it was... a 3rd Round pairing with Scott... and when the boards lit up, our hopes were still alive!! Next up we had to face No.1 Qualifier Carl Hester, who was on fantastic form and had taken the top spot with a perfect ET!

Another win light secured a place in the Final round, where we faced Gary Hester. talk about deja vu, these two have met so many times, and it's always a great race... and this was to be no different!
After being held on the line until the seagulls decided to vacate their spot on the track, the lights flashed down and both racers cut 0.9 lights, and were side-by-side the entire quarter, both were 100th of a second off their dial-in... with the victory going to Gary with a win margin of just 0.003 of a second, or 7.16 inches!!!!!
As always, we have to say a huge Thank You the SPRC guys and girls for everything they do to ensure a great event, also to our classmates who make ET Bike such a great class to be a part of.
Thanks to everyone who visited "Satan's Lady HQ" and to those who give us such great coverage, as always thanks Eurodragster.com for great action shots. Thanks to the lovely gentleman who filmed a couple of Phil's runs from the grandstand, we don’t normally see runs from this angle (made us realise just how loud that 2step is).
Before we finish, we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the incredibly brave Jack Gooding who sadly lost his lifelong battle with Cancer early on Sunday morning. Race In Paradise Jack... You will be missed.
We have a few weeks off now, before the National Finals... where it really is all to race for!!
Thanks again for your continued support and encouragement... it really is appreciated.
Phil, Suze, and Pat ~ Saluting "Fame's Favoured Few"

Thanks to Lloyd Perkins for sending in this Team Perkins Greenlight Nationals update, Llyod writes:

Thought we would give an update on our recent 7.60 HU event at the Greenlight Nationals, after finishing the summer nationals on a high, making progress and running more consistently towards where we want to be, we ran into quite different issues that we have never come across.
We decided to finish painting the car, polishing the wheels, and giving the car a polish and finally, putting new slicks on… which then came the issues.
We purchased the tires around a year ago after leaving them in storage for a while, we decided to put them on, pulled round for our first qualifier of the weekend and then the car was bouncing around violently leaving us having to fight the car down the track to put a number on the board… 7.77.
We completed full checks of the rear end set up and couldn’t find anything, so we set off to the next qualifier… same again but this time a lot worse causing us to abort the run. Turns out we had egg shaped tires!
We decided to not do Q3 and pump the rear tires up to the limit and leave them in the sun hoping this would round them out for Q4. After a couple of long burnouts, the issue settled itself luckily and although losing to Rob in the 1st round, the car felt a lot safer and hopefully issue solved, certainly something we have never come across!
To top it off, we are now the proud owners of the 'late light clock' where Kev had a little nap handing the win to Rob.
On to the next meeting where we are competing in Comp Eliminator at the Euro finals hoping to get back to making progress, all in all a frustrating weekend but we are incredibly happy with how the car looks, and now we need to back it up with performance.
Once the season ends, we will go about a much-needed engine upgrade that has been in the planning stage for around 5 years, in conjunction with ICE.
Those if you who don’t know, the engine we have under the ‘sumo’ rules has been the same combination that was built in 2002.
By ICE for Steve Rawlings, therefore you can imagine it is much needed to be able to compete with the competitive field that exists in Comp Eliminator today, and it is safe to say we have got the most out of the current combination.

We will get to work, and no doubt see us competing competitively in 2025. Lastly, another thanks to the Williams Bros & VP racing for supplying the fuel & oil for the weekend, again it’s highly appreciated and helps a lot.
See you all in a couple of weeks.

Happy Birthday for today to 9.50 Bike legend Rick Sawatzki, former Pro Stock Bike racer Fredrik Fredlund, and VW Beetle racer Becki Turnock, we hope you all have a great day.
Thanks to Kerryanne Frazier for contacting Eurodragster.com with this on behalf of Jack's parents:
On Sunday 18th August 2024 the drag racing world lost one of our own, a fine young man Jack Gooding. Many of you will know Jack from his Junior Dragster days and then going onto drive his green VW Scirocco.
Jack fought a very rare form of cancer from the age of 5. He did so with such strength and dignity that he is an example to us all. He never gave up. He remained smiling and cheeky till the end.
Jack was only 24 years old when he gained his wings to race in peace and a celebration of his life will take place on Friday 30th August 2024 at 3.15pm at Ipswich Crematorium IP4 2RW and afterwards at Mix Cafe and Bar Neptune Quay Ipswich.
The family ask for close family flowers only. Donations to be made to St Elizabeth’s Hospice, Ipswich who supported Jack and his family.
Please feel free to wear whatever you want, but please no black suits or black ties. Jack loved his joggers so casual if you wish. Race shirts or tie dyes as colourful as you want to portray Jacks personality, with a splash of purple, Jacks favourite colour.
We would like to pass our condolences to his family and friends at this very sad time.

Thanks to Clare Lake, wife and crew chief to 2023 Champion Gary Lake for sending this report on Sportsman ET at the Greenlight Nationals, Clare writes:
It always had the potential to be an interesting meeting with the threat of our first bump spot, and it didn’t disappoint, but not for the reasons we thought!! With a few racers dropping out everyone knew they would qualify, but the stage was set for an explosive set of eliminations, when four racers hit their ET’s and an exhaust was left on the track and run over!

As predicted eliminations were competitive. Having been number one qualifier Stef Pateman (BMW 435i) had a bye into the next round but thought she would remind us why she qualified at the top by hitting her dial in for a second time this meeting, having first done so perfectly in qualifications. Alan Medley (Ford Mustang GT) also had a place in round two after a long wait on the start line chasing Terry Attree (Ford Focus LX), by hitting his dial with a 13.4707 on a 13.47, just 0.007 off.
Terry’s son, Troy Attree (Chevrolet Camaro Z28), thought he would show dad how it was done, and he too hit his number with a 12.4009 on a 12.40 dial, but secured his place by Alex Prior (VW Caddy) breaking out.
There were three other breakouts from Matt Halsall (Ford Escort MK2), Michelle Walker (Ford Cortina) and Simon Swarbrick (Ford Pop) which automatically gave Felicity Gibbs (Ford Mustang), Brian Huxley (Ford Focus) and Kirstie Tramm (Chevrolet Camaro) their positions in round two. Also, straight through were Chris Creswell (Ford Focus) when Richard Palmer (Jaguar XKR) redlit (-0.0160), and Dave Cherrett (Vauxhall Astra) when Clive Dandridge (GMC C15) also redlit (-0.0438) when he had issues on the start line.
Some close racing by everyone else in the first round saw Adam Wakefield (Ford Maverick) bring an end to Sophie Evans’ (BMW 330D) first competitive race. Adam’s car is performing better after issues earlier in the season. Despite Steven Giles (Subaru Forester) having a better reaction time than his opponent, Gill Medley (Jeep Grand Cherokee), took the win, and the scenario was the same for Sylvia Purcell (Ford Mustang) who was better on the light, but Gary Lake (Pontiac Trans Am) caught Sylvia and took the stripe.
Better reactions allowed Rob Creswell (Ford Fiesta ST) to secure his place over Ian Dance (VW Golf ETSi), as did new racer Jordon Griffin (Suzuki Swift Sport) over James Grew (Chevrolet El Camino).

Jane McCready (Ford MK4 Escort Van) had a tussle at the finish with Holley Walters (Ford Mustang), with Jane being victorious. Pete Walters (Chevrolet Camaro Z28) took the win over Jago Stokes (Nissan Skyline) who were neck and neck through the race. Georgina Smith (Toyota Supra) had a hole shot win over seasoned Super Pro racer Tom Atkinson (Chevrolet Nova Wagon) due to her better reaction time. Kudos to Tom for hitting his number “off the trailer” in qualifications though! (There’s perfection!)
Again, in round two, more racers hit their ET’s but unfortunately both were heading home after their reaction times let them down. Gary Lake, who had hit his number in qualifications was defeated by Kirstie Tramm’s extremely impressive 0.0115 reaction, which was hard to beat! In the case of Chris Creswell, a slight red put an end to his journey through the competition, and furthered Dave Cherrett’s. Felicity Gibbs had the slightest of breakouts to pass the round three position to Troy Attree. A double breakout decided the fate of Rob Creswell and Stef Pateman, who took it to the wire, with Stef having the smaller breakout gaining the available spot. The better reaction times from Jane McCready and Jordon Griffin put them through to the next round in their match ups against Adam Wakefield and Gill Medley. The final two races in the round were equal with similar reaction times and similarly accurate ET’s. Pete Walters showed his experience taking the line before Georgina Smith, and Alan Medley crossed the line just before, recent British Hall of Fame inductee, Brian Huxley.

There was a long sleepy wait to run the quarter finals after a track emergency, with everyone keen to go once racing reconvened. Sadly, Jordon Griffin was a bit too enthusiastic and red lit, leaving Pete Walters to go through to the Semi Finals where he would be meeting Troy Attree. Stef Pateman broke out in the closely fought race with Troy Attree. Cruelly for Jane McCready she red lit, which sent Dave Cherrett through even though he broke out. Dave would meet Kirstie Tramm in the semi-finals, after she caught and passed Alan Medley quickly.
With four experienced racers in the semi-finals who will earn the coveted spaces in the finals. The pairing of Pete Walters and Troy Attree, both in Camaro Z28’s, were almost identical. Troy Attree reacted better, putting the pressure on Pete Walters, who broke out giving us our first finalist.
The other semi-final was no push over either, with Dave Cherrett making Kirstie Tramm work hard for her place in the final. He had the better light and with a slower car, Kirstie had to wait at the start line, but she caught him and took the win.
It was not the final anyone wanted. Sadly, for Troy Attree he handed the winner’s trophy to Kirstie Tramm after he rolled through the beams. Both were deserving of a win, but that’s racing! Congratulations Kirstie, and commiserations Troy, there will be a next time.
It was a very notable event; lots of numbers being hit, PB’s and other milestones, so well done to all in Sportsman ET for another competitive and challenging event. The class makes inroads at every meeting, with more racers and closer racing. Only one more chance to do it this year at the National Finals, when we will see who will be crowned Class Champion of 2024.

As always, our huge gratitude to Santa Pod and SPRC and all staff for making it possible; The Dibley family for the continued sponsorship and enthusiasm from Hutchinson & Dibley; Bad Habit Racing for the Awards which challenge us and make us better, and for the weather for staying dry for once!!!! Lastly, although Chris Winn was missing from the track this time, he was with us in his role as Eurodragster editor, so thanks to him and the team (Graham, Dave, Di, and Julian) for the reports and pictures.
Pictures below are taken from Sportsman ET Facebook group courtsey of Andy Dibley, sponsor of Sportsman ET (Hutchinson & Dibley).

We here at Eurodragster were sad to hear of the loss of Jack Gooding .
Jack passed away yesterday aged 24 following a life long battle with cancer. He competed in Junior dragster in 2014, and 2016-18, then joined the VRDRC and raced in VW Sportsman where he won Rookie of the Year in 2021.
Jack's parents Rebecca and Gary posted this on Facebook yesterday:
Our beautiful, caring, amazing son that made us parents passed peacefully at 5:50am this morning.
Jack you will be deeply missed, our hearts are broken but your memory will live on forever. We know you are at peace living your best life and watching over us and your brothers.
Dad will get your pride and joy to pod and it will race with your amazing friends who we are eternally grateful for.
Rest in eternal peace darling, this is not goodbye but see you soon.
Love Mum, Dad, Jaime, Archie and Daisy.

Thanks for Remco Scheelings from Drag Racing Europe for this NitrOlympX preview:

No time to rest for the teams of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Hardly recovered from the exciting races at Tierp Arena, it’s time for the famous NitrOlympX at the Rico Anthes Quartermile of the HockenheimRing. Duncan Micallef (Top Fuel), Jonny Lagg (Top Methanol), David Vegter (Pro Modified) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Stock) are the current leaders, but one thing is for sure and that is that nothing is sure looking at the different winners so far this season. Interesting ingredients for another exciting round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship.

Ida Zetterstrom posted on her Facebook page about her semi round at Lucas Oil NHRA, Ida writes:
Started the day off with a huge first round holeshot win against Steve Torrence but ended the day with a tough semi final loss against Shawn Langdon today.
I messed up as a driver by pulling a massive red light. First time I’ve ever red lit in a Top Fuel car and it is hard to explain - my mind did not want to leave yet but my leg had other plans and smashed that throttle way to early. I’ve heard about this from many drivers but never had it happen to me, now I understand it.
I guess it was a weekend of first in many ways.

Got that crossed off the list and now we won’t do that again. I know I’m better than that and we showed great performance as a team this weekend. I’m incredibly proud of this team and the strides we have made, and this is only just the beginning.
Can not wait to get back out there again for the Big Go in Indy in less than two weeks!
Happy Birthday to fuel altered racer Adam Gleadow, Norwegian former Super Twin racer Hans Olav Olstad, Methanol Funny Car racer Johnny Oksa and Super Pro ET racer and Top Methanol Dragster Isak Lagg, we hope you all are having a fantastic day.

Thanks to Nick Brooke-Langham "Nervous Nick" for sending in this report from Gasser Circus to Eurodragster.com, Nick writes:
The Mopars as they are known have been part of the Gasser Circus race season for over a decade, it has always been another great opportunity to get track time and indulge ourselves with all things Mopar. Saturday turned out to be a very unusual day weather wise, it remained dry despite a few occasions when a few spots of rain were in the air, and for much of the day it was breezy and cold. But mid-afternoon the clouds parted an out popped a glowing hot sun which baked the pits and track for the rest of the day.

At the conclusion of qualifying 13 of the 15 Gassers present had posted times which would see them in the show on Sunday, with only Ian Turberville missing out in his Bad Blood barracuda, the car reluctant to unleash the power in its blown motor and Ray Irish in his Blown Gas Junkie Willys. Ray had made it down on the first qualifying session, but a misfire meant that he made use of the return road. Ray spent the rest of the day chasing the misfire, but he is a racer never to be beat, and with the sun beginning to sink he was still seeking the source.
Out on the track it was time for the Wheelie competition, among those shooting for the sky were 3 Gasser Circus cars. First up was Sean Milsom in his wicked Ain’t Misbehavin Morris Van, Sean treated everyone to not just one but two wheelies rapidly followed by flirting with the centre line. Despite being first up that was going to take some beating. Unfortunately Martyn Hallam in his Hallam, Hallam & Couch 33 Willy's and Steve Matthews in is Honky Tonkin 57 Chevy were nowhere near the wheels up action they normally supply. Mike Couch suggesting it looked like they ran over a pebble!
A crazy score of 8 from one of the judges at the end, saw Sean knocked off the top spot, with him dropping to the runner up spot.
Sunday arrived and so did a cure for the misfire for Ray Irish, which on one hand was brilliant and on the other too late, to race.
Round 1 of eliminations got underway the pairings were
No 1 Qualifier Brian Gibson in his Identity Crisis Dodge on a bye.
Sean ‘Chili’ Milsom was next up and having sorted out his axle twisting antics from Dragstalgia was keen to get a win under his belt. The same could be said of his opponent Paul Dominey in his 640 Dorset, as he was still getting to grips with his new highly potent Chevy power-plant. Too much as it turned out, as he broke out running 10.25 on a 10.46. Sean progressing.
Battle of the 55s next with ray Turner in Green Onions and Adam Kruczynski Not So Mellow Yellow lined up against each other, this was not the first time they have raced each other, and on the previous occasions Ray has won, and it was another close race unfortunately for Adam it had the same outcome.
The Traitor Pop was next up with yours truly back behind the wheel having recovered from a chest infection when Drew ‘Billy Bob’ Mason jumped into do the racing chores at Dragstalgia. Coming out of the burnout next to me was Sam Glenn in the Glenn & Glenn orange Devon pickup.
Sam had dialed 10.43 and I had 11.30, when we crossed the line at the end Sam was ahead, but I had the win light. I had run my second PB of the weekend with 11.13, a breakout but Sam had also done the same but by a bigger margin with 10.24.
Next up was Simon Prest in his Rocket Mercury and Steve Matthews in his 57. When the two cars stopped the clocks they too had both broken out. Steve taking the win. Slowly those that had already run came to the realisation that the track was performing far better than on Saturday as PB’s and breakouts were now King.
Jason Hollamby - Jumpin Jalapeno and Martyn Hallam in his 33 were next to race and again we had a break out for Martyn but he took the win as Jason left a tad too early.
Harvey Turner in his Nurse Stoner Nova, prepared to race Chris Layram in his Outa Gas Pop Harvey staying the right side of his dial in as Chris strayed the wrong side of his with a 10.10 on a 10.20.
At 1.30 the Gassers were once again in the fire up road for the quarterfinals. First up was The Traitor Pop with me behind the wheel with Steve Matthews in the right hand lane. At the end of the race it became clear that I had been treed with Steve on 0.046 to my shameful 0.322.

Green was to feature in the next race with Green Onions taking on the green van of Sean Milson. However, it rapidly became about another colour this time red with Ray leaving one on the tree with a 0.0020. Sean advancing to the semi-finals.
Harvey Turner in his Nova was on a bye and he made good use of it, running through hard and strong.
Final pairings had number 1 qualifier Brain Gibson ‘Identity Crisis’ dialing 11.63 to Martyn Hallam’s 9.85, we were treated to a great side by side race, with Martyn coming out the victor with his 9.86 to Brian’s 11.76.
Just before 3 it was Semi-final time and at the end of the fire up road sat Steve Matthews and Harvey Turner, and Martyn Hallam and Sean Milsom who had been chasing a suspension setup all weekend as he sought to launch straight.

Steve dialed in 9.64 and Harvey 10.85 at the end where the win light goes on it was in Steve’s lane having run 10.00 to Harvey’s losing 11.23.
Sean in his van dialed 10.11 and Martyn choosing to dial 9.85. This was going to be a close one, and so it was but Martyn had a hole-shot over Sean which he turned into a win with a 0.020 reaction time to Sean’s 0.204.
The final was now set and an hour later the Gassers were ready to race and the Gasser Circus crews and drivers eliminated were waiting to see who would come out on top.
Both the Willy's and 57 Chevy came round rolled through the water and under the instruction of Ian Marshal and their crews began two strong rolling burnouts. As they edged to the line the Gasser Circus crew edged up to the concrete wall and watched as the top bulbs lit swiftly followed by the next bulb. This had all the makings of a great final as long as it stayed a greenlight race, as Martyn had dialed 9.88 and Steve had 9.69 on his back window. Within a blink of the eye both cars launched and two green bulbs glowed as the Gassers hit the 60 foot mark they were side by side, they maintained the positions as they hit mid track, three quarter track and again at the finish line, but there has to be a winner and Steve had the bulbs glowing on his side having run a 9.71 to Martyn’s 9.90. We had just been treated to a truly exhilarating final.
Back in the pits, the teams gathered at Steve’s Pit where he would receive the fantastic bowling pin trophy from the Gasser Circus sponsor Neil Melliard. The money from The Rocket Racing Team was handed over for Number 1 Qualifier and best reaction time. Steve and his crew celebrated by getting the 57 up in the air so they could make adjustments to the ladder bars in preparation for the Cash Bash the following day.
The Gasser Circus want to thank all their sponsors Neil Melliard, Rocket Racing, Tom Margesson, and Chris at Goodale American Speedshop, and the brilliant team at Santa Pod.
Not long until Round 5,see you at VW Action.
Happy Birthday for today to Pro Modified Badillac racer Jan Gunnarson, have a great day Jan.

Eurodragster.com contacted Roy Wilding on his Mopar Euro Nationals weekend, Roy sends in this report and writes:
I’m still floating on air since the Mopar meeting at Santa Pod. What a weekend that was!
We set out early on Thursday towing two trailers to the meeting. One was the Chariots of Fire slingshot, and the other was the brand new “Her Indoors” Buick slingshot. After setting up and settling in, we fired up the Buick and double checked the oil and fuel pressures, and all the oil levels. Elaine asked me to do the first check out pass on Friday, which I did. It coasted through the top end at a steady 75mph and didn’t miss a beat. Elaine’s turn. Elaine did a repeat of my run which got her settled in the car. The third pass showed up a few tiny issues with gear selection, but all in all, well worth the exercise. Elaine parked it up after that as she didn’t want to interfere with the Chariots of Fire team.

Saturday morning Mark Luton rebuilt and reset the clutch as we’d had issues at Dragstalgia. We went through the warm-ups and then towed down to the start line. I was a little concerned as it was a fresh set up and Mark had done some aggressive changes to the finger weights on the Titon clutch. This was slightly unusual and out of character for Mark, but a calculated change of approach, which I respected. However, I was still a little apprehensive. Anyway, we had a game plan to build the rpm up as high as possible to the point where the car would drag me through the beams, risking a red light. So strapped in, caution to the wind and time to do my bit.
I left the line with a little tyre shake, and drifted towards the centre line, so changed gear instantly. It felt good, so into high gear and I ran the car through. At the top end I did expect a low 7 at 198mph – or thereabouts. I pulled the car round at the top end and waited for my tow back. The top end crew were there to help as always, but never said anything to me about me having done the 200.
My team arrived as normal. They never said a thing about me having done the 200. Nothing. Not a word. I eventually asked, “how did it go?” All of them said I’d run a 7.2 second pass. So, in my mind I instantly thought I hadn’t done the 200. Then they dropped the bombshell and said I’d done 202mph over the finish line. I had no words. We were all “high fiving,” hugging and cheering. The penny dropped when I realised, we’d done it. I was elated and emotional.
We – had – done – it!!!!!!
Back to the Pits. The words from the team were “let’s repeat it and get the 6”. So, while the boys were getting on with prepping for the next round, I went off to get the” Golden Ticket” from the timing office. All the way from the top end of the track to the timing office and back, I had well-wishers cheering, clapping, patting me on the back, shaking my hand, shouting my name. I felt a Million Dollars! I was becoming emotional again before I got to the timing office. What a feeling.
Then I popped upstairs to the tower to talk to Colin Theobald. I was full of high spirits and even on my way up the stairs, people were congratulating me. I got to speak with Colin, and he invited me to join him on the mike. I was too choked at the time and had to decline. This feeling was incredible, and unsurpassed by anything I’d ever achieved before. The 200 was an exceptionally long time coming, but worth the wait.
Back to the Pits and now to prepare for the second run. Mark Luton did a slight fuel change, and we got ourselves back to the Start line. I burned out, staged, and ran the car as before. Again at the top end I was waiting for the boys to tow me back, and I had no clue as to what I’d run. They told me I’d done 199.91mph and my immediate feeling was that it was highly likely another low 7. My team (the crafty b@*$ds) said you’ve done a 6.969 second pass. I felt as good as I did after the first run. WOW! The words out of my mouth to the b@*$ds were that we HAD to get the 200 and the 6 together... and that was our aim from that point. The third run was close at 6.954 seconds at 199mph.
Sunday morning and the first run saw perfect weather and a perfect track. We got the “Golden Ticket” of 6.88 seconds at 203.48mph. Hallelujah! When I heard the news, I felt 20 years old again with the world at my feet. Not bad for a Brummy approaching 70 years old! The following run was 7.0 seconds at 201mph, and then I got to the Finals of the Supercharged Outlaws, which we won. From memory I did a low 7 at 199mph. What a weekend!

In summing up, achieving 203mph in 6.88seconds is the best feeling I’ve ever experienced in drag racing bar none. I’ve been racing for 42 years, and was heavily involved with Shakespear County Raceway, APIRA and a racing member of the NDRC. I’m a member of Santa Pod Racer’s Club, raced in Malta and was recognised twice by the Drag Racing Hall of Fame. Firstly, as a founder member of the Wild Bunch, and secondly in my own right. All this time, all this effort, all this dedication to the sport came together for me in one run – that being at 203mph in 6.88seconds. I felt the same emotions last year when I became the 72nd Inductee of the Drag Racing Hall of Fame. For me, life doesn’t get better than this.
Today, and writing this, I will be celebrating by mostly eating Bourbon Biscuits. You can’t wipe the smile off my face, and I do love Bourbon Biscuits!

Thanks to Niamh Smith for sending this report for Nostalgia Super Stock from last weekend's Mopar Euro Nationals, Niamh writes:
Well now we’re all back and hopefully recovered from a hot weekend at the Pod, it’s time for my post-Mopar’s round up!
We had 59 entries but after some breakages, no shows etc 49 cars took part in qualifying on the Saturday. After 4 qualifying sessions, amazingly the top 31 out of 49 cars were within tenths of their dial in!! The top 7 were within hundredths of their dial in - the calibre of racing in this class never ceases to amaze me nowadays. At the end of play on Saturday however, our top 3 qualifiers and last placing qualifier were awarded trophies and cash by Boz (thank you Boz!) and the NSS coffers, seeing Rob Cawthorne taking the top spot, only 0.0004 off his dial in! Rick Denny in second (extra cool points for driving his car to the track with caravan in tow), and Steve Lloyd third with the stunning Blue Pearl Impala, who also took some extra dough for being number 1 qualifier off the trailer. Stuart Floyd coming in last was also given a little something to sweeten the blow, rounding off a day of particularly bad luck!

After a night of revelries for Jack and Beth’s hen and stag dos, we were on track first thing Saturday morning. No shows against Jack Bishop, Dave Simcock, Karl Kenyon and Paul Singer, and a bye for Rob Cawthorne meant these five were automatically through, along with Jake Cawthorne after a double breakout against Gary Semper. Breakouts were the order of the round after the appearance of an elusive Santa pod tail wind, with 10 other racers falling foul to this!
Into round 2; second place qualifier Rick Denny on a bye run saw him through, along with Lola Cavey in her newly equipped Nova, Alan Medley with a lesser breakout against no1 qualifier Rob Cawthorne, breakout from Ash Rawson handing the win to Beavis Allen, and a red light from Karl Kenyon meaning Richard Granger through to round 3. Accompanying him was Phil Hobson, Allan Matthews in the ‘stang, Glynn Boardman, Dave Simcock, Dave Billadeau in his beautifully turned out Duster, Pete Christmas, stag Jack Bishop and Daniel Williams.
Round 3 saw 13 become 6; Pete Christmas on a bye, Jack Bishop treeing Dan Williams who was only 0.0006, Rick Denny taking the win after Glynn Boardman broke out, Lola Cavey red lighting against Dave Simcock as did Richard Granger against Phil Hobson, and a breakout for Alan Medley against Dave Billadeau. An unfortunate non-starting issue for Beavis Allen saw Allan Matthews into the next round.
Round 4 of eliminations up next, where Dave ran closer to index than Jack, Allan Matthews on a bye run into the semi-finals, Rick Denny defeating Phil Hobson and picking up a perfect light award in the process (0.0002 RT!) and Dave Simcock breaking out against Pete Xmas.
4 cars going into the semi-finals battling out for a place in the finals; Dave Billadeau VS Pete Christmas, and Allan Matthews VS Rick Denny. Dave was closer to his dial in than Pete meaning he reserved his spot, and a close race between Rick and Allan saw Allan bang on his dial in and into the finals.
So here we have the finals of the 30th Mopar Euro nationals; Dave Billadeau in his freshly built ‘All Fired Up’ Plymouth Duster and Allan Matthews in his beautifully turned out red Mach 1 Mustang. Allan broke out, running an 11.23 on an 11.27, meaning Dave took the winning prize money and expertly painted air filter lid trophies supplied by Goodale American Speedshop and painted by Craig Ainge Traditional Signwriter!

I think you’ll all agree it was an excellent weekend, helped by the balmy weather which is a rare occasion for the Mopar Nats! The fun didn’t stop on the Sunday, as many of our racers stayed on to race at the GAS Bash the following Monday - a race report from that has been shared by Goodale American Speedshop onto the group, however 3 out of the top 4 prize winners were NSS racers, with runner up awarded to Lee ‘Cookie’ Chiles, third to Phil Hobson and fourth to Ty Strevett!
This weekend was also the last event for our Lifestyle Championship, which led to some panicked mathematics from the tower with Colin trying to work out who was vying for the title in real time! Well we have our runner up and winner, respectively Jack Bishop taking the runner up spot and Dave Billadeau your 2024 lifestyle champion!

The trophies for the championships will be awarded at our post-season party early next year! Congrats to both of you, and our winners from this weekend and a little apology from us announcing the wrong winners at prize giving, we should have waited until the points were added up officially!
While Mopar’s brings the lifestyle rounds to a close, it is not over yet for NSS with one more permit round to go on the 20th-22nd September at the National Finals, so make sure you get your entries in if you’re a permit racer! For those who aren’t, hopefully see some of you at Hot Rod Drags, or the post-season party (which we will make a start on organising soon, I promise!). Thank you to our sponsors for allowing us to all come together to do what we love, and on a personal note to everyone in Superstock who make my weekends at my second home a joy!
Happy Birthday for today to Storm dragbilke owner and Hall of Fame Michael Hand, also to Super Street Bike racer Margot Schmidt,
Many thanks to Santa Pod Raceway's announcer Colin Theobald for sending this update on shows this August Bank Holiday. Colin write:
With the Silverstone Festival being just one week away we can finally reveal what this year’s Drag Racing display will consist of. Last year was the first year that Tim Hinchcliffe and Colin Theobald got together to put on a show and they certainly made everyone take notice with 16 great teams. This year however they have raised the bar considerably higher with an incredible 29 teams including cars from Pro ET, Gasser Circus, Supercharged Outlaws, Nostalgia Funny Car, Wild Bunch, Comp Eliminator, Pro Mod, Street Eliminator and more. We’ve even got our 2 wheels racers covered with Top Fuel Bike, Funny Bike and 8.50 bike. We have the youngsters included with 3 Junior Dragsters on display and a fantastic competition in conjunction with Lucas Oils, Santa Pod Raceway and the SPRC for anyone up to 16 years old to win a day in a Junior Dragster.
Without doubt the highlight of our display will be the engine fire-ups with 2 sessions per day scheduled. Last years fire-ups were immense and the crowds we attracted were huge, fair to say we are turning it up a bit this year with Patrik Pers and the Speedghost Funny Car team headlining our show. Not only will they fire up the car, the team will strip the engine down during the day in front of a very bemused crowd with live interviews with the team during this process.
Commentary once again is provided by Santa Pod announcer Colin Theobald, his enthusiastic approach will certainly engage with the spectators and without doubt will help people understand more about the world of Drag Racing.
For more information regarding the festival visit the Silverstone Festival website and check out what’s on in the Shift & Drift zone, please click here.

If the Silverstone Festival wasn’t enough to organise for the bank holiday weekend, Tim along with Nigel Lockley have been pulling together an amazing display for Carfest. Another batch of amazing Hot Rods will feature strongly at this years event but for the first time ever, Drag Racing will be a major feature with 9 teams attending and like Silverstone some will be firing up including Ada Cassisi with her Junior Dragster, Mark Coulsell’s Ballbreaker Slingshot, Barry Giles and the Giles and Hartley dragster and none other than Kev Slyfield and the team with the Blown Bird Pro Mod!!!
Carfest is all about the parade laps as well as the live music and taking part will be Warren Watts and Pete Dodd with their Camaros, Dave Russell with the ‘Van with no Name’, Mark Sheridan’s Twin Turbo Cuda and crowd favourite Justin Woolner and his Vermin’s Diner Rat Rod.
We are indebted to every team that has given up their bank holiday weekend to help promote our incredible sport and a huge thank you to everyone at Santa Pod Raceway for their incredible support of these 2 huge shows. Please visit the website links for more information about each event.

Earlier this year Tethys announced his 20 years in Drag Racing, but unfortunately came down ill and could not race, so we here is the update again with was published on 22nd June. Tethys writes:
After spectating on the bank for years, 20 years ago this summer I decided to take the plunge and get out on track myself, so I booked a driving day with Paul Marston in Grumpy's Dodge. The day ended with a 10.87s timing slip and it's fair to say I was hooked. A deal was done, and I'd end up racing Grumpy for the next couple of years. Those were my first steps on a path that would ultimately end up with me in Top Fuel.
I was thinking about the fact that it had been 20 years and thought I should do something to mark the occasion. Much as I'd like to, I don't have the funds to get back out in Top Fuel just yet. But why not go back to where it all started? Seemed like as good an idea as any, so I got in touch with Paul, and I'll be racing Grumpy again at the Greenlight Nationals Santa Pod Raceway this weekend. It'll be great to be back out on track and back in Pro ET - particularly as Grumpy is now a couple of seconds quicker than 20 years ago.

Thanks to Niamh Smith for sending in this Gas Bash 2024 report from Eurodragster.com sponsor Chris Goodale, Chris writes:
On 12th August 2024, the Monday following the Mopar Euro Nationals, Goodale American Speedshop hosted our inaugural ‘GAS Bash’ track day at Santa Pod Raceway! It was a brilliant sun filled day with hoards of racers either stopping over night from the Mopars or turning up exclusively to race at the GAS Bash.

We had a mix of Nostalgia Eliminator, Gasser Circus and Nostalgia Superstock cars entered into the bracket competition, in which racers had a chance to win vouchers that could be redeemed with GAS and beautiful trophies which were hand painted by Craig Ainge. There was also Run What Ya Brung sessions available throughout the day, and several cars were there taking advantage of this, along with members of outlaw street who were competing for a £50 best reaction time prize.
We kicked things off with a drivers meeting in the GAS pits and handing out the racers goodie bags, which included exclusive event T-shirts and freebies from Lucas Oil who supported the event. Next it was back to the cars to prep for the first two test sessions, in which random pairings were picked by our trusty young assistants!
Into the first round, where half the cars got knocked out but had the option to buy back in for a chance to continue racing. After the buy back round, 14 cars were still in the race; all 3 classes being paired up together made for some great racing!
Into the quarter finals, and we had NSS racers Lee ‘Cookie’ Chiles and Gary Cork up first, with Cookie taking the win. Ty Strevett had a bye run into the semi finals, and Phil Hobson won against Nostalgia Eliminator racer Paul Marston. Adrian Portelli defeated Gasser Circus racer Chris Layram with the ‘Outta Gas’ Pop, and we had our 2 pairings for the semis.

In the semi finals, Adrian defeated Phil Hobson running closer to his dial in, and Ty red lit handing the win to Cookie.
The two racers who got knocked out of the semis had one more race to do in order to decide who won the third and fourth place prizes, so Ty and Phil came back around and lined up at the start line once more. Phil did a stonking run; an 0.06 reaction time meant he got away quick, then running a 12.3531 on a 12.35 dial in meant Ty’s 11.48 second pass wasn’t close enough to his index.
As for our finalists, we had Cookie in the NSS Valiant and Adrian in his freshly built NE Polara. Adrian ran a 10.21 on a 10.19 dial in, but Cookie ran too quick for his index, breaking out with a 9.97 on a 9.99 dial in - all the fun of bracket racing! This meant that on his debut weekend, Adrian Portelli took the first place prize at the GAS Bash 2024, and Cookie the runner up award!
The fun didn’t stop here however - The Watts Shop also provided a cash prize , Gasser Circus racer Simon Glenn was awarded the Watts Shop ‘Red Light Bandit’ cash pot for his very eager -0.1383 red light; silver lining and all that! And Cody Wallington took the OS best reaction time prize from Goodale American Speedshop.
Thank you to all the racers who entered and made the day the success it was. Also we would like to thank Sam Goodale for all the help with organising the event, Niamh Frances Smith for all of the help with promotion and keeping the day running. Lucas oils UK for promotional items for the racers, Craig Ainge Traditional sign writer for the fantastic custom Dana 60 diff cover GAS BASH trophies and to Paul Przybyl at PRZYM DESIGN for the most awesome piece of artwork for the GAS BASH 2024 Logo for the event T-shirt and banners.
All this goes to say, we hope you will come and join us next year, where the GAS Bash will be even bigger and better!
Thank you to Kirstie Tramm for covering the pictures on the hottest day of the year, you can view all the Gas Bash pictures by clicking here or by clicking events on the top menu.
Ida Zetterström and JCM Racing announced on Facebook on Monday this update: European speed queen Ida Zetterström will officially launch her campaign for NHRA’s 2024 Rookie of the Year at this week’s Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota. The Swedish sensation is ready to take American drag racing by storm in her patriotic red, white, and blue JCM Racing VP Racing Fuels/Edelbrock/Comp Cams/Dodge Top Fuel Dragster.

With only eight races to make her mark, Zetterström knows she’s got to go full throttle from the start. Embracing her new home in the U.S., and with a tongue-in-cheek nod to the American political battle dominating the news cycle, Zetterström’s campaign is firing on all cylinders as she prepares to make her grand debut alongside her JCM Racing teammate Tony Schumacher. She’s on a mission to set off win lights and win over the hearts and minds of NHRA enthusiasts in hopes that a solid fanbase will work in her favor when it’s time for members of the media to cast their ballots for NHRA’s Rookie of the Year in November.
That’s why she’s hitting Brainerd International Raceway with a grassroots campaign replete with all of the requisite garb. Zetterström and her Jon Schaffer-led Top Fuel team will be giving away “Zetterström for 2024 Rookie of the Year” pins, stickers, and yard signs throughout the weekend. Merchandise celebrating the Zetterström/Schaffer ticket will be available at the NHRA Nitro Mall, and a campaign ad featuring the Indianapolis resident is set hit the social media airwaves this afternoon. On Saturday following the final qualifying session for the penultimate event of NHRA’s regular season, Zetterström will ‘hit the campaign trail’ with her JCM Racing teammates. They will caravan through Brainerd International Raceway’s iconic “Zoo” in order to help drum up support for the candidate who is up against a loaded field of hopefuls vying for NHRA’s coveted ‘Road to the Future’ honors. Zetterström is looking forward to shaking hands and taking selfies with some of drag racing’s most loyal fans while the NHRA on FOX cameras capture her multiple campaign stops throughout the massive campground.
With a resume that reads like a champion’s checklist—multiple titles in Europe across two wheels and four, victories in Super Street Bike and FIA Top Fuel, and a spot on Drag Illustrated’s 2022 “30 Under 30” list—Zetterström has the credentials to back up her campaign promises.
“Drag racing in America, on the NHRA tour, has been a dream of mine for so long, and it’s amazing to know that it’s actually coming true,” said Zetterström, who will compete in the eight remaining races on the 20-event 2024 schedule. “I’m proof that if you work really hard for something, you can make your American dream a reality. Winning Rookie of the Year would be an incredible achievement, and I’m ready to prove I have what it takes.
“We know we have to make up for lost time and make a big splash, so with this being my U.S. Top Fuel debut, we decided to really have some fun with it and launch with an election-themed campaign as a way to throw a little extra attention our way, and maybe that’ll help us come November when it’s time for the powers that be to decide on who will be named the 2024 Rookie of the Year. I’m a bit behind compared to my fellow candidates, many of whom have been on the track all season long, but putting the best team together and building an operation from scratch takes time and we wanted to be meticulous and not rush anything. My crew chief, Jon Schaffer, and I are excited to get out there and show what we’re made of. We’re going to have some fun with it, but make no mistake, our primary focus will be squarely on securing the points and performances needed to claim the 2024 NHRA Rookie of the Year award.”
Zetterström’s campaign roared to life with a fiery preview at the Roadkill Nights event over the weekend, where she unveiled her livery for the first time and gave American fans a taste of what’s to come behind the wheel of her 12,000-horsepower beast.
When she hits the track aboard her JCM/VP Racing Fuels/Edelbrock/Comp Cams/Dodge dragster this weekend, she will become the 64th woman to compete in the NHRA’s premier series.
Zetterström’s NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series debut will get underway with two qualifying passes on Friday, August 16 at 4:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. CT. She will then have two more qualifying opportunities on Saturday, August 17 at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., leading up to her historic professional start in NHRA Drag Racing when eliminations begin on Sunday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m.

Happy Birthday for today to Top Fuel racer Dennis Nilsson, Nostalgia Superstock racer Jim Chandler, VW Pro racer Jacob Bailey and 8.50 Bike racer Keith Wright. We hope you all have a great day.

Thanks for Remco Scheelings from Drag Racing Europe for this report on FIM-E Scandinavian Internationals at Tierp Arena.
Despite a couple of showers to interpret the schedule, the full set of FIM-E eliminations was completed at the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals at Tierp Arena just north of Stockholm, Sweden. The knockout phase produced some surprises, some superb racing and some movement in the points as the European championship heads into its home stretch over the next month with two events remaining.

£200 is up for grabs at this weekend's Greenlight Nationals event at Santa Pod Raceway courtesy of Eurodragster.com and our sponsors

This weekend's Bad Habit Racing Perfect Light Award has been reset to £75 after it was won by Nostalgia Super Stock Rick Denny at the Mopar Euro Nationals. The money will be paid to the first racer at the event to record a Reaction Time of 0.000 seconds. The Perfect Light Award is available in all classes during both qualifying and eliminations, but will only be awarded for the first Perfect Light of the event. The Perfect Light Award is presented in association with Cath and Tig Napier of Modurstang Pro ET team Bad Habit Racing.
Decals are not mandatory for the Perfect Light Award but we would appreciate it if Eurodragster.com decals are carried. Eurodragster.com decals are available in Signing On or from Eurodragster.com staff.
The Hayley Hadfield Perfect ET Award supported by Andy Hadfield has been reset to £50 after it was won by Rob Cawthorne at the Mopar Euro Nationals. The money will be paid to the first racer at the event to run +0.000 on index or dial-in. The Hayley Hadfield Perfect ET Award is available in Peter Nee Super Pro ET, Modurstang Pro ET, Hutchinson & Dibley Sportsman ET, W.A. Watts Automotive Super Comp, Tony Morris Carburetors Super Gas, Pro Race Engineering VW Pro, Quantum Leap Racing VW Sportsman, Lucas Oil Junior Dragster, JKE Race Works 8.50 Bike, Atlantic Fluid Tech 9.50 Bike, Warpspeed Racing ET Bike and Eurodragster.com Junior Drag Bike. But will only be awarded for the first Perfect ET of the weekend. The Perfect ET Award is presented in association with Andy 'Fadster' Hadfield of the Twister Race Team in memory of his late wife Hayley.
Decals are not mandatory for the Perfect ET Award but we would appreciate it if Eurodragster.com decals are carried. Eurodragster.com decals are available in Signing On or from Eurodragster.com staff.

The Bob's Photo Finish Award, which is presented in association with Eurodragster.com sponsor Bob Roberts, will award £50 each to the racers involved in the closest finish of a green light and non-breakout race of eliminations at this weekend's event. At the Summer Nationals Event the Award was won by Junior Dragster racers Harry Peters and Jacqueline Bartlet with a finish line margin was 0.0008 seconds or 1.0177 inches.
The closest race will be decided upon distance rather than time since, for example, 0.001 seconds at 230 mph is further than 0.002seconds at 110 mph. For this reason the official timing data will need to be consulted so the winners will be announced here on Eurodragster.com as soon as possible after the event and the winners will then be contacted for their preferred method of payment. The award will be paid on green light drag races only, and not on bracket races where there is a breakout.
Birthday greetings to 8.50 Bike Racer Ian Chrichlow and back up girl Charlotte Cook Abbott, we hope you have a great day.

The British Drag Racing Historians are proud to present the third part of the Wally Park's stories: Originally posted on the 19th January. Today we publish further excerpts from Wally Parks' detailed journal relating to his candid thoughts at the time of the First British International Drag Festival. Part 3 which you can see at clicking here, includes material about Dante Duce as the NHRA Director of International Activities, International FIA licences for the American team, and sponsorship from Goodyear who wanted all cars to be fitted with their product. Gerry Belton was expecting 20,000 spectators at each of the six races held throughout England and there was tension between the BDRA and the BHRA who were not invited to run their dragsters at the Festival as it was Allard’s Brainchild.
Wally Parks' journal was obtained and edited by his son Richard who has kindly given permission to us to publish extracts from it relating to the period when British Drag Racing was being founded on Eurodragster.com. The opinions are those of Wally, who is referred to by Richard as "Parks" or, occasionally as "my father".
The story was produced by Richard Parks, photos, images chosen by Nick Pettitt and John Hunt and published by editor of Eurodragster.com Simon Groves. We all thank Jim Miller of the American Hot Rod Foundation for scanning the photos and adding captions.

Duncan Micallef, Sandro Bellio, David Vegter and Jimmy Ålund number one qualifiers at Summit Racing Equipment Internationals.
Although there were several improvements on day two of qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals at Tierp Arena, three of the four Friday leaders remained in the number one position. Thus Duncan Micallef is the number one qualifier in Top Fuel with 3.791 seconds, David Vegter in Pro Modified and Jimmy Ålund in Pro Stock and they will lead their respective categories into Sunday’s eliminations of round three of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Top Methanol was the only class with a new leader after day two as Sandro Bellio stormed to a great 5.50 seconds to take over the lead from Jonny Lagg.

Top Fuel Dragster: Duncan Micallef: 3.7912/517,24kph (321.398mph) – New PBs and new FIA speed record subject to ratification
Top Methanol: Jonny Lagg, 5.3437/440.46
Pro Modified: David Vegter. 5.8427/389.89

Super Twin Bike: Marcus Christiansen (6.1302/364.37)
Pro Stock Motorcycle: Joerg Lymant (7.1334/297.85)
Super Street Bike: Alan Morrison Jnr (6.8740/352.25)
Duncan Micallef, undoubtedly the star of today’s action, and Susanne Callin were the only two Top Fuel cars making passes today, we are expecting Linn Engan Fløysvik, after her first attempt today, to be making licensing runs tomorrow and plans to compete on Sunday subject to her license being signed off. Susanne ran a great 3.9650/ 442.62 early shutoff.
Top Methanol consists of two A/FDs and three methanol funny cars. Behind Jonny Lagg, Tony Bryntesson ran 5.3758/432.00 in Q2. Sandro Bellio had a 5.5244/366.35 run in Q2 disallowed, leaving him in third place with his earlier pass. The Funny Car of Johnny Oksa is at the track but has not yet been able to make a qualifying pass.
Sixteen cars made the call for Pro Modified. David Vegter was quick off the trailer in session 1, and Mats Eriksson ran within 2 hundredths of his PB in Q2 with a 5.8613/394.74. Third is Roger Johansson (5.8821/ 390.17), fourth the turbo car of Andreas Arthursson (5.8828/380.55), fifth Åke Persson with 5.9335/390.17 and sixth and final PM racer in the fives was the new Camaro of Michel Tooren at 5.9432/388.21.
Pro Stock is once again dominated by Jimmy Ålund with Stefan Ernryd in second place and Robin Norén in third, both running in the 6.6s. Eight cars comprise the provisional qualifying
Rikard Gustafsson ran his career second best ET to go over two tenths clear in Top Fuel Bike, whereas Sverre Dahl went 6.0495/359.28 after a rebuild of his engines between events.
In Super Twin Bike, Marcus Christiansen ran a great 6.1302/364.37 ahead of Erling Opheim’s 6.3403/325.89, massively quicker than before on the quickest of Rofstad machines. Greger Johansson suffered a big engine explosion off the line but no-one was hurt by flying debris.
In Competition Eliminator Robert Arthursson ran incredible passes of 6.06 and 5.991/392.44 in his Toyota 2JZ powered Camaro, however these times were disallowed from the official qualifying lists. Niklas Heikkilä ended the day on top of the listings with a new PB of 6.5762/341.77 on a 7.37 index
Top Doorslammer had Matthias Wulcan returning to competition and he was on top of the standings with a 3,7406/329.47 to the eighth, barely ahead of points leader Jaakko Lauhasmaa’s 3.7567/318.77.
Read about today’s FIA qualifying with Remco’s Scheeling’s report on www.dragracingeurope.eu at this link and photos at this link. A complete report on bike classes by Ivan Samson and Rose Hughes is on www.dragbike.com at this link.
British racers did well in Pro Street (aka 7.60 Heads-Up) with Kevin Jenkins in 3rd (7.6012) – the first two cars ran perfect ETs. Billy Gane is in 13th spot with 7.6243, the bump spot for 16 of 22 qualifiers being 7.6380. In the Super Class (combined Super Comp/Super Gas/Super Street), Ronnie Mercer is 13th of 21 with a 10.9905 on the 10.90 SST index.
Stock/Super Stock racer Carla Pittau suffered a breakage in the rear end. She posted “I heard something strange coming back from the last run. Jacked the car up, turned the wheels, and the axle locked after 3 revolutions. Forced free, it turned freely again and locked.
“Dropped the cover and found the problem. Five years’ service, time for a new ring and pinion. We have an old one at home, not the same ratio, but what can you do…
“So, 4.56 it will be, so it isn’t going to be great, but if it keeps the wheels turning and Carla able to compete, we’ll take that! We always say that if we break something, now we’re just going to drink beer… but so far we haven’t managed to resist the urge to fix it when it breaks. Carla was 14th in the standings at the end of the day, with partner Rick McCann 26th of 33.

Duncan Micallef with new European speed record into the number one qualifying position at Tierp Arena.
Duncan Micallef claimed the provisional number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals, round three of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship, at Tierp Arena, Sweden. The driver from Malta stormed to a great 3.791 seconds at 517.24 km/h, two new personal bests and an official new European speed record. In Top Methanol Jonny Lagg is the provisional leader, while in Pro Modified and Pro Stock David Vegter and Jimmy Ålund claimed the provisional number one qualifying position after two runs.

Happy Birthday to Pro Modified racer Bobby Wallace, have a great day Bobby!
Land Speed Racer and Nitro Revival sponsor Geoff Stilwell paid tribute to his crew who have been working 14 hour days to prepare the 7707 Fuel Modified Rear Engine Roadster for its record setting runs:
"Apart from a single run on it last year, it was the first time we had run the car at Bonneville since it had been rebuilt by Kiwi Steve and others in 2019. In the six runs we made with it this event, four were personal bests over 260mph and five runs were over the existing 258mph record coming into the event. We increased the record from 258mph to 277mph.
In our final pass yesterday, we loaded it for bear to try to reach 300mph. We ran our fastest two mile speed then in the third mile it started sliding around and the run produced a speed of 268mph. The course had become a little wet as the heat had drawn water to the surface. After the run we found an inch of salt on the tyes having driven through puddles.

"The crew were amazing and I can’t thank Nick Davies, Rob Loaring, Scotty Barnes, Scotty C, Pauly Rivera, Sebastian and Kevin enough. Special thanks to Mick Jenkins, Tony Thacker and Nestor, also to my friends Sharon pictured below right) and Bob Muravez, and to Doug Herbert who visited us yesterday. The temperatures here are brutal….everyday well over 100F. Rob rightly said the environment was very unforgiving. The only consumables we used apart from nitro and oil were a single set of plugs. So huge thanks all round."

A safe journey home to Geoff and the 7707 crew, whose next outing will be at El Mirage in November.

Thanks to Santa Pod Raceway's Events Coordinator Max Frost for this update regarding Mopar Euro Nationals NOS Update, Max writes:
Ahead of this weekend's Mopars we have an important NOS update for you out of the Pod Shop.
NOS will be available Friday and Saturday as normal. However, no NOS will be available on Sunday.
Therefore, please ensure you have the NOS you require by the end of the day Saturday.
Thanks for your understanding and safe racing to all this weekend!
Santa Pod Raceway have released this update on the FIA/FIM EUROPEAN FINALS which takes place at Santa Pod Raceway 5th-8th September 2024:
There are still two overseas races to go in 2024’s FIA/FIM European Drag Racing Championships – at Tierp in Sweden and Hockenheim in Germany – yet already the drumbeat is sounding for the arrival at Santa Pod of the continent’s rapidest two- and four-wheeled drag racers to settle the season’s rivalries for good in the biggest shoot-out of them all, the European Finals.

Typically, 16 or 17 countries are represented among the 250-plus entrants, ranging from Finland in the north to Malta in the south, and sometimes beyond. Topping the bill are the ‘nitro beasts’, 300mph Top Fuel Dragsters and Fuel Funny Cars, seen at their most spectacular in Friday evening’s twilight qualifying session along with a field of afterburner-popping Jet Cars, with a crackling fireworks display added for good measure.
At the opposite end of the programme, Junior Dragster and Junior Dragbike competitors – kids as young as eight – share the bill with their very grown-up counterparts. In between is the full range of FIA and UK national championship classes, including a Pro Mod race combining both FIA and Motorsport UK title contests.
One fixture already confirmed on the entry list is the return exhibition bout between British and American Fuel Altereds, the unwieldy, nitro-burning machines which so transfixed Santa Pod’s recent Dragstalgia historic race meeting. Randy Bradford flies in from the States to pit his Fiat Topolino-bodied entry once more against the Austin Bantam Havoc of Britain’s Nick Davies.
On two wheels, it’s a similar story, with four adult classes alongside the Junior Dragbikers competing for FIM European crowns and headed by nitro-burning, 250mph Top Fuel Bikes and ground-thumping nitro Super Twins. Together with their Pro Stock Bike cousins, there are the phenomenal Super Streeters, road-going in appearance but capable of 6-second passes at 230mph achieved on street-legal tyres without the benefit of wheelie bars.
Off-track, Santa Pod always delivers an array of entertainments for all the family, including stunt riding and driving shows and Monster Trucks in the Live Action Arena, with live music among the host of other attractions.
More news will follow as the entry list gathers momentum.

The FIA/FIM European Finals 2024 take place from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th September at Santa Pod Raceway, near Wellingborough NN29 7XA. Full event information is available at this link and tickets may be booked online there or by telephoning 01234 782828 – advance booking only, no tickets available on the gate.

Thanks to Markus Münch for sending in this intro for the NitrolympX Hockenheim on 23rd-25th August:
The nitros, every year you look forward to it. In my case, since 1986, still like a little child. Again and again the question of whether the track will hold what is thrown at it. The ranks will be packed again, full of fans of drag racing and fans of nitros. It has to be noted that it has been the only official race in Germany for several years.
This is especially bitter for the Sportsman area, where I wish (and I am happy to lend a hand) more in our country, in the German-speaking world. But that's another story.
You can read the full article by visiting this link. Please make sure you translate into English on the web browser to view.

Many thanks to sponsor Peter Walters and points co-ordinator Yvonne Tramm for updating the points for the classes at the Bug Jam '37, which you can see on our points page by clicking here or on the Santa Pod Racers Club website.
Congratulations to the winners of the 2024 Straightliners Championship round 6 at Melbourne Raceway.
Complete lists of ETs and speeds recorded on Saturday and Sunday, including RWYB bikes, are available by clicking on this link. Thanks to Martyn Greathead for supplying Straightliners Championship results and points, which are available by clicking here.

With sunny weather at the weekend the staff and marshalls at Melbourne have done a great job.
JUNIORS:
In the semi’s William Mountford made it through to the final beating Alfie Barraclough and Maisie Thornton, who’d been lowering her times by big chunks throughout qualifying, held it all together to beat Arron Gregory. Come the final and Maisie had her best race head on and trounced William to take a well deserved win.
SCOOTERS NO MERCY:
First semi saw Amy Wolstenholme beat a hard charging Stuart McVicker and Paul Gurney went through when Eric Cope pulled an uncharacteristic red light. In the final Paul gave his all but Amy just edged him at the line to carry on what she did in her junior days.
JUNIOR SPRINT CAR:
Semi’s saw Jude Elliott beat Toby Jackson and Dexter Wilson, who’d had one or two problems in qualifying, get it all together to beat Bradley Brook Dexter then taking a close run final win against Jude.
6SEC CLASS:
Jamie Brooks took a bye into the final after Peter Slater encountered an electrical glitch that couldn’t be fixed in time and Maxine Taylor beat Ian Wicks. In the final it was all over for Maxine as she released the clutch a fraction early and put on the red light giving Jamie his first well deserved win.
STRAIGHTLINERS NO MERCY SHOOTOUT:
With an 18 bike field there were some hard fought races with Phil Wood back and having some great side by side runs with Peter Slater. Though there were no side by side 5sec runs Phil ended up with a new personal best just shy of Peter’s 5.63sec 2wheel record.

Luke Holland made it all the way to the semi’s Peter Slater joining him and taking the next step to the final.
Phil Tomlinson, having a low stress laid back weekend, his words on Saturday night, beating firstly Terry Mountford and then Max Thornton and into the final.
With 2 determined and rapid starters it was going to be one heck of a final and so it was both riders giving it 110% Phil just across the finish line ahead of Peter by a gnats whisker.

NSCC:
Steve Gilmour made it through to both Saturday and Sunday’s finals being beaten by Derek Beck on Saturday and just losing out to Gary Bird on Sunday.
PRO ET:
Bob Molden beat Andy Rounthwaite, Bob within 0.04sec of his dial in and Andy within 0.09sec of his so Bob could quite easily have broken out.
NORA ELIMINATIONS:
In the semi’s Gill Pacey had a wind assisted breakout against Paul Gurney and Eric Cope benefitted from Chris Jacobs red light.
In the final it was close to call all the way to stripe but it was Eric’s win light that came on.
We would like to thank former editor Andy (Tog) Rogers for covering the weekend with on and off track pictures. You can check out our John Woolfe Racing sponsored Melbourne Raceway results and gallery by clicking here or by clicking on the Events link in the main menu above.
Happy Birthday for today to Sportsman ET racer Jane McCready, Top Fuel racer Aidan Heatley-Smith, photographer Ashley Booth-Dale Nostalgia Superstock racer Karl Kenyon and Pro Modified crew and legend Camp Stanley. We hope you all have a great day.
Land Speed Racer and Nitro Revival sponsor Geoff Stilwell got back to the track yesterday after an evening of celebrating his new record set on Monday.
A highlight of Tuesday was receiving the official record holder decal. On track, the car continued to perform with a recorded speed of 264.418 on his sole run during the day. There were some delays due to car fires so team 7707 got the run well into the afternoon.
Top speed of the day, and of the event so far, was the Speed Demon streamliner which ran 459mph on a first half of a new class record, the car having a chute fail and ending up past the 10 mile mark, where conditions were wetter than the course. Driver Chris Raschke and the Speed Demon team got the car back to impound where it was cleaned and started, ready for a morning backup today.

Thanks to Eurodragster.com sponsor John Tebenham for an update on his racing plans:
"Right, so my beautiful Pop is ready to race and buy . Everything has been gone through as we were missing 2 - 10 clicks. Refreshed engine, gearbox and converter. An amazing car.
"Then we have my crazy Pro Mod. I know we have mixed results to say the best, but I do spend a crazy amount of money on it. I don’t want sponsors, but if you fancy buying a t-shirt or posters, that would be good.
"Come and say hello at the Finals - every dog has his day."
You can make JT an offer on his Pop by mailing him at this address.
Happy Birthday for today to VWDRC racer Emma Sadler, Super Street Bike racer Garry Bowe, Outlaw Anglia racer Ben Kennedy and Junior Dragster mum also Sportsman ET wife Tracy Redshaw. We hope you all have a fantastic day.
Huge congratulations to Nitro Revival sponsor and Land Speed racer Geoff Stilwell who set the BFRMR (B Fuel Rear-engined Modified Roadster) class record yesterday at Bonneville Salt Flats. Following the car being parked in the mandatory impound for servicing after the record run, Geoff achieved a run of 278.971 mph at to back up his earlier 276.767 for a record setting average of 277.869, the previous record being 258 mph set by him back in 2018, before the car was rebuilt.
You can see Geoff being launched on his backup pass, and subsequently celebrating, by clicking on the images below (videos by Mick Jenkins and Sharon Muravez). Also ride on board 7707 for Geoff's backup pass by clicking here (video by Nestor Cabrera).
Geoff said “It was a hot day, at 6am the temperature was 85F with highs later of 105F. It was a glorious sight on day three of racing as we headed towards the salt at sunrise. All was quiet on the Salt as teams set up their pits, By 7:15am the team was hard at work preparing 7707 for its first run.
“The team were in the staging lanes by 9:30am and after a wait of over 3 hours made its run to 276mph in mile 4.

"Then we went to impound an after four hours we were able to go out at 5pm to make the backup run. We had one hour to get to impound which was a four mile tow from where the car had come to a halt. Once you run, you are not allowed to return to your pit and you have four hours to service the car, moving much of the pit to the impound area.
"The start line temperature was 109F. Nick and Rob changed a few things on the engine to give more power. With the progressive throttle adjusted to open the butterflies quicker, the reaction of the car off the startline on the backup run caught me by surprise and the car was all over the place. Once I had straightened it out, I got it up to 278mph, but if I had got the start right it would have been a 300mph run.
"I had no idea that I had run a record as the sun was on my back reflecting on the dashboard. I knew it wasn’t over-revving it but couldn’t read the speed. When I saw 8 or 9 photographers and the SCTA guys at the end of the run, that was the first I knew. I didn’t have the strength to get out of the car with the heat.
"The tech guys then examined the car and dismantled the engine to check the capacity.
“Huge thanks go out to everyone at the SCTA for all their help, and to all my team Rob Loaring, Nick Davies, Scott Barnes, and Scott Campbell back at the shop, also Tony Thacker, Mick Jenkins, Kiwi Steve, Pauly Rivera (who was instrumental in the build and Sebastian.”
After a few celebratory drinks last night the team will be “hat-hunting”, as Nick put it, in the search for a 300mph record today, but with one run planned as the heat is forecast to reach 104F today. The team have the nitro and oil to enable Geoff make the run, and will be on a high after yesterday’s record.
Thanks for Remco Scheelings from Drag Racing Europe for sending his preview
Danny’s Racing Team Belgium were looking forward to the start of the new season after the winter break. During the winter, a problem in the engine was found that caused the drop of performance of the funny car for several years. Everything was checked and the parts that were needed were ordered in the States. The team had been struggling to record 5.4-second ETs in the last couple of seasons and spent a lot of time with looking for the reason. There had been doubts about the fuel pump, but unfortunately that was not the problem either. The first race of the season was of course The Main Event in England.

The British Drag Racing Historians are proud to present the third part of the Gerry Belton's stories: In the sixtieth anniversary year of the first UK Dragfests our fourth series of Pioneer Stories concentrates on the people and events surrounding these massively influential meetings. This year is the 60th anniversary of the First British International Drag Festival which was organised by Gerry Belton who thankfully kept all his correspondence leading up to, during and after the Drag Festivals and Part 3 includes more offers of magazine coverage as Lynn Wineland wrote ‘I shall be covering the meetings for a number of magazines in this country, principally, Hot Rod, Car Craft, Modern Rod, Drag Racer, Hot Rod parts illustrated, Cycle World and the Motorcyclist. In addition I will be shooting some movie film, including the use of a 16mm helmet-mounted camera. Several TV news stations and one major network have expressed an interest in this material.’

Four shows were planned in London, Leeds, Manchester and Bristol but not all went to plan. The Automobile Club Di Milano, confirmed four participating Dragsters for demonstration and show at 35th Italian Grand Prix which Moonbeam, two Allard Dragons, Tony Nancy's slingshot and George Brown's Vincent motorcycle would attend.
Gerry received many thank you letters after the events, although they had received some criticism during the events there was a lot of positivity and gratitude after the Festival and there is a link to some Drag Festival eyewitness accounts along with a list of American drivers who are still with us and those who have passed.
This story which you can see by clicking on this link, was produced by John Hunt from Gerry's letters, edited by Nick Pettitt and published by Eurodragster.com editor Simon Groves. Simon Belton, son of Gerry, and Allan Allard, son of Sydney, have given their kind permission to publish letters and other paperwork.
Nitro Revival sponsor and Land Speed racer Geoff Stilwell made his second run of Speedweek at Bonneville Salt Flats on Sunday and pronounced himself happy with the setup of the 7707 Blown Fuel Roadster, whilst running within 2mph of his previous record (click on image for video).
“I ran 256.134 mph which felt fantastic. We have changed a few things, and it drives like a Rolls Royce. The engine is in perfect shape thanks to my team Rob Loaring, Nick Davies and Scott Barnes. The new setup has lots more to give and can run through mile four.

“The temperature was 94.7F with 23% humidity when we ran at 13:17 but has risen to 105F during the afternoon.
“We won’t run again today because we all must be off the salt by 8pm, and we don’t want to go to impound too late in the day having run a record with servicing needed on the car for the backup. We plan to run tomorrow morning (Monday) and get to impound during the day’s racing.”
“On checking the tires after the 256mph run we found the tires had started to “chunk”. So huge thanks go out to the guys at Shelby Goodyear for changing the tires.
Geoff mentioned there were a few incidents slowing down the action, including one car hitting the mile markers wrecking clocks stationed at that point. But lots of runs were made. SCTA reported 250 runs and 19 records set on Sunday. The salt Record Return runs will be at 7:30 a.m. and then qualifying runs will resume.
Congratulations to Jim Hoogerhyde whose electric powered streamliner ran a new record of 306.169mph making Jim eligible for membership of the 300mph chapter. Let’s hope Geoff achieves this during Speedweek.

Thanks to Herman Jolink for sending in his Mantorp Park, Sweden report 25th-28th July Herman writes:
I was at the Mantorp Park Sweden racing with my Ducati Panigale-1 Drag Bike and I must get the feel of the Young Lady (Ducati Panigale-1 Drag Bike).
Herman has been riding since 1976 at Drag Race, Sweden and always on Ducati Bike. After the 3rd – 4th day of riding my body begun to say it is too much and after a short black out at the start I get so much support from the riders, racers at Mantorp Park in the bike and car classes. The spectators have helped me so much too with my battle against cancer (Anuscarsinoom).

Please see this picture taken by Patrik Jacobsson of me doing the rolling burnout on my Ducati Panigale-1 Drag Bike (1408cc)
Next time I am out riding is 29th Aug to 1st September at Mosten Race Days (1/8 miles) Sprint on. This one of my best tracks from Europe big biker meeting. There will be live music too. On Friday and Saturday, there will be motorcycle races as well as car races on the track, where different classes participate. Several of the classes are extreme in their setup. For example, Super Twin Top Fuel bike, Top Fuel bike and Top Gas Bike.
The latter will run the final of their European series during Raceday. Top Doorslammer cars, which are the top of the car classes, will also be able to make the hairs stand on end on your arms.

Happy Birthday for today to Wild Bunch racer Philippa Turton, Top Fuel Bike owner and engineer Phil Baimbridge, Fiesta Mk1 racer and tuner Chris Todd and Finnish Pro Modified racer Jere Rantaniemi. We hope you all have a great day.
Nitro Revival sponsor and Land Speed racer Geoff Stilwell had a busy day after setting their pit up on Friday. Saturday morning saw the team fire the car up then went to the queue, where Geoff and team had a wait of four hours before making their first pass.
Sharon Muravez posted: “After a slippery start Geoff made a good recovery as he powered the car to 243mph before pulling the chutes in mile three. Good data collected for runs tomorrow.” Geoff added “Our first run did not go to plan! It was a bit lively and the car nearly spun. I normally leave the push truck at 3000, this time it was 3700, enough to overpower the track and spin the tyres.
"The run gave very good data showing that we can run the engine to four miles rather than three, which will let it wind up to more speed. This is the first time we have been able to run on a dry surface at Bonneville since the car was rebuilt in 2019, last year we only did one run which resulted in the fuel tank splitting.
"Being the first day, not many ran their quickest. Speed Demon was for once not the fastest and Mike Strasbourg at 331mph is the leader. Danny Thompson in the Ferguson streamliner (right below) suffered a propshaft that ripped apart, and the team have managed to make repairs and replace the part. Other Brits included Ian Northeast in a Jensen CV8 who ran a 176mph best, and Bill Cleyndert (second from left) who ran for the first time since 2019.

"Temperatures soared to 109F with 13% humidity after our run, you can get burnt just touching metal. The pit ambulance was very busy and I am making sure that everyone on the team is drinking watered down Gatorade which will help replace electrolytes so we can keep hydrated."
Without time for a second attempt after other racers suffered spins in the tricky conditions off the start line, Geoff and team will prepare the car for two planned runs today (Sunday). However the track has been busy with 211 runs until 7pm on Saturday and more of the 600 competitors will be looking to run today. See the live stream by clicking here.

Geoff sent a couple of other snippets including a new sponsor: “Huge thanks go out to Justin Arias and the team at Arias / C.P. Carrillo. Proud to support them.”
“Huge thanks go out to the guys at “Dukes Speedshop” for presenting me with the fantastic scale model of 7707. Truly a work of art. Thank you guys. Really appreciate it.” Duke’s scale models start life as a Home Depot 2x4. He creates two identical liners and gets the drivers to sign his copy and the drivers get their own copy...and to our knowledge, these carvings are not for sale.

Happy Birthday for today to Super Comp and Super Gas racer (and four times champion in both) Stuart Doignie and Top Fuel Bike racer Jan Sturla Hegre, we hope you both have great days.
Nitro Revival sponsor Geoff Stilwell reported from Bonneville Salt Flats that the salt is in the best condition it’s ben since he first attended in 2016, and that the 7707 Modified Fuel Roadster passed tech inspection without problem.
“We arrived at Bonneville yesterday and have been preparing the car. We took it for tech inspection earlier today and there were three inspectors who gave it a thorough look over, being one of the quicker cars. It was good to get it through which gives us more time for final checks. Tomorrow we will warm the car up and then plan to run it twice every day for up to 6 days until Thursday, depending on how long the queue is.

“The surface is like concrete, smooth like a billiard table. We will be on the long course, and as in previous years there will be a short course for the slower vehicles and both courses can run independently of one another. Conditions are so good they have drawn a huge entry of 600 vehicles, and the pits extend for six miles.
“Temperatures are 105F, thank goodness we have air conditioning in our trailer. At the end of the day no late than 8pm we will depart the salt to stay at the Nugget Hotel in Wendover. The Land Speed Record Club host a Friday night barbecue which is a great opportunity to talk to other competitors, including a few Brits who have also made the journey out here.
“The hotel are great at providing hospitality, even if they are full and folks arrive with RVs, they can use water and power hookups in the hotel car park.
We are expecting quite a few visitors, do drop by our pits if you are at Bonneville. We saw Rich Guasco earlier today, and Brian Hope will be racing with son Michael Hope driving their roadster which Ron had planned to.”
Good luck and stay safe to Geoff at Bonneville - stay tuned for reports on his record attempts.

Thanks for Remco Scheelings from Drag Racing Europe for sending his preview for the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals at Tierp next weekend.
Only one week to go and the FIA European Drag Racing Championship kicks off the second part of the season with the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals at Tierp Arena, Sweden. After rain brought an early end to the eliminations of the opening round at Santa Pod Raceway, round two at Tierp Arena was a great success with great weather conditions on raceday and happy winners in all four classes.
For round three the championship returns to Tierp. Duncan Micallef (Top Fuel), Tony Bryntesson (Top Methanol), David Vegter (Pro Modified) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Stock) are the leaders in their respective categories, but with several pursuers close behind, the competition will be tough again.

Thanks to Lloyd Perkins from Perkins Motorsport for contacting Eurodragster.com with this update on their team, Lloyd writes:
Thought we would give an update on what has been happening with Team Perkins, since we haven't consistently been attending events for some time now since the crash, and especially in 2024.
Some time has passed now since the crash at the Euro finals in 2022, which took a lot longer than expected to be back competing at the level we know we can, but thanks to a lot of hard work from the team and to Andy Wright who done the chassis work & baselined the car, we are starting to get the car back to running consistent again, but of course not where we want to be!

At the start of the season, we have been going about making the car look like its former self, alongside buying a 5-speed liberty, so learning something new has been exciting as it's been The Soul Man's ambition for a long time to row one!

We also wanted to give a massive thank you to Williams Bros & VP Racing who have provided us with Oil and Fuel for the last couple of meetings which is much appreciated, and since then we have improved ETs every run, it can't be a coincidence!
Looking forward to the rest of the year we can't wait to see some more progress as we get to grips with the car and look to freshen and upgrade ready for next season so we can really push for some championships again, by adding to our round & event wins!
We have plenty of T-shirts and Hoodies for sale, which will be available at the track if you are interested, or just message Lloyd Perkins on Facebook at this link.
Happy Birthday for today to Street Eliminator racer Andy Bond, Pro ET racer Paul Jackson and Maltese Escort Mk1 racer Mark 'Gladiator' Farrugia, we hope you are all having a great day!
