Also, Tony’s involvement with the NDRC and flathead powered dragsters.

Springspeed Nationals - Important information – Scrutineering.
24th March 2025

Santa Pod Racers Club has announced this information regarding Scrutineering at this weekend Springspeed Nationals event at Santa Pod Raceway:

With over 200 entries for the Springspeed Nationals this weekend, scrutineering is going to be quite busy. The later on Friday it is, the busier we will be. The earlier you come to scrutineering, the shorter the queue will be. Scrutineering will be open from 10:00am on Friday (28th).

Please have all your driver’s gear removed from bags ready to be shown and please be patient.

Street Legal Cars
If your car is street-legal, please do not drive/push into the scrutineering shed. Pull up in front of the timing office window next to the shutter (not the one in the tunnel) and we’ll check you there. It would be helpful if you could lay out your driver’s gear in the boot. Make sure your boot is empty too, including any tools from the spare wheel well. If the spare wheel is held by a plastic nut, that will need to come out too.

Junior Dragsters
We can’t check the car without the driver. We need to check for the mandated 2″ roll cage to helmet clearance and that the race suit is the right size. It would be helpful if the driver could be sat in the car with their helmet, suit and harness on when coming into the shed.

Spingspeed Nationals perfect awards.
24th March 2025

£200 is up for grabs at this weekend's Springspeed Nationals courtesy of Eurodragster.com and our sponsors.

This weekend's Eurodragster.com/Bad Habit Racing Perfect Light Award has been reset to £50 for the start of the season. The money will be paid to the first racer at the event to record a Reaction Time of 0.000 seconds.

The Perfect Light Award is available in all classes during both qualifying and eliminations, but will only be awarded for the first Perfect Light of the event.

The Perfect Light Award is presented in association with Cath and Tig Napier of Modurstang Pro ET team Bad Habit Racing. Decals are not mandatory for the Perfect Light Award but we would appreciate it if Eurodragster.com decals are carried. Eurodragster.com decals are available in Signing On or from Eurodragster.com staff.

The Hayley Hadfield Perfect ET Award, supported by Andy Hadfield and the Twister Race Team has been reset to £50 for the start of the season. The money will be paid to the first racer at the event to run +0.000 on index or dial-in. The Perfect ET Award is available in Peter Nee Super Pro ET, Modurstang Pro ET, Hutchinson and Dibley Sportsman ET, W.A Watts Automotive Super Comp, Tony Morris Carburetors Super Gas, Lucas Oil Junior Dragster, JKE Race Works 8.50 Bike, Atlantic Fluid Tech 9.50 Bike, Warpspeed Racing ET Bike and Eurodragster.com Junior Drag Bike. but will only be awarded for the first Perfect ET of the weekend.

Decals are not mandatory for the Perfect ET Award but we would appreciate it if Eurodragster.com decals are carried. Eurodragster.com decals are available in Signing On or from Eurodragster.com staff.

Eurodragster.com Photo Finish Award, will award £50 each to the racers involved in the closest finish of a green light and non-breakout race of eliminations at this weekend's event.

The closest race will be decided upon distance rather than time since, for example, 0.001 seconds at 230 mph is further than 0.002 seconds at 110 mph. For this reason the official timing data will need to be consulted so the winners will be announced here on Eurodragster.com as soon as possible after the event and the winners will then be contacted for their preferred method of payment. The award will be paid on green light drag races only, and not on bracket races where there is a breakout.

Eurodragster.com Photo Finish Award is open to all classes during eliminations only and although Eurodragster.com decals are not mandatory we would appreciate if it they are carried. Eurodragster.com decals are available in Signing On.

The end of Crew Killer.
23rd March 2025

Pro Mod and Super Pro ET racer John Tebenham has passed on to us the sad news of the end of his time driving the awesom Crew Killer Pop that has thrilled so many, not least of all Santa Pod's start line crew, with its burnout antics.

"So I have very sad news - the end of my beautiful Ford Pop as we know it . Trying to run two cars at the same meeting is a complete nightmare. For instance at last year's Doorslammers, we broke both cars - and even the golf tow buggy.

"I have placed most of the parts, thanks to Luke at Andy Robinson Race Cars and Nick at I.C.E.  So now the rolling car is for sale, with harnesses, seats, radiator, fuel tank etc. It is all tagged to race a the big meetings.

"Call me, have a deal, but no part exchange for £14,000.00. My phone is 07583 615973."

A brand-new championship for 2025, the Straightliners SixSixty is your ultimate test of speed and skill which takes place this Sunday 23rd March at Santa Pod Raceway.

The Six Sixty Championship is the same as the No Mercy Classes. You go as fast as you can for the qualifying. On Sunday you give your dial in time to sign on. This is the same as the bikes No Mercy classes.

Entrants must be Straightliners members with a NORA Licence and have purchased a ticket for the individual event.

Spanning across nine action-packed rounds throughout the year, this is your chance to push your car or bike to the limit, go head-to-head with fellow racers, and claim the 1/8th championship title.

Are you ready to take on the challenge?

“After a tough couple of years in 2022 and 2023 when Bonneville Speed Week was rained out, we came back with a vengeance in ’24,” said Geoff, “I’m not saying it was easy—Bonneville is rarely easy—but we were able to up our existing A/BFRMR (Blown Fuel Rear engine Modified Roadster) class record almost 20 mph from 258.569 set in 2018 to 277.869 mph.

“Our goal is to hit the magic 300 and I think we have the right combination to do it,” continued Geoff, “the car is stored and maintained at Mick’s Paint, Pomona, CA where Mick Jenkins and his team do a fantastic job aided by our logistics and PR guy Tony Thacker and Scott Campbell and Pauly Rivera doing maintenance. The rest of the team, comprising crew chief Nick Davies and Rob Loaring, both of I.C.E. Automotive, and Scott Barnes fly in with me from the UK for each event.

“Our next race will be the Southern California Timing Association season opener at El Mirage, California, May 17-18. That is always our shake down event for Bonneville Speed Week that this year will be August 2-8 when with the help of Red Line Oil, we hope to bump our record yet again.

“We’re excited to have Red Line Oil support us with their range of products that we will be using throughout the racecar as well as in our support vehicles. It’s good to be working with a company that cares about what we do.” Concluded Geoff.

Race Winning Brands Europe and Vegter Pro Mod Racing extend partnership.
18th March 2025

Thanks to Remco Scheelings from Drag Racing Europe for this report on Vegter Pro Mod Racing and Race Winning Brands Europe

Race Winning Brands Europe will also be a partner of Vegter Pro Mod Racing for the next two seasons. The partnership between the Nieuw-Vennep-based market leader in performance parts for cars and motorcycles and the leading team in the Pro Modified class of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship was so successful and both parties were so pleased, that an agreement was concluded for a period of two years with an option for the period after that.

“We are proud to be representing Race Winning Brands Europe for the coming seasons and are looking forward to an even more intensive cooperation,” said David Vegter and Elin Lindegren, the driving forces behind Vegter Pro Mod Racing.

Outlaw Anglia Championship Awards and Dinner Dance for 2024.
17th March 2025

Many thanks to site sponsor Outlaw Anglia co-ordinator Colin Millar for sending in an account of another successful Outlaw Anglia Championship Awards and Dinner Dance for 2024 at the weekend, Colin writes:

Slightly later in the year than normal the Outlaw Anglia guys and gals came together at the Kettering Park Hotel and Spa, a fantastic venue where everything is in hand and is in the one location, making good use of the swimming pool and Spa facilities is a must, especially for the ladies, a little treat goes a long way as racing season is just about upon us.

Yes, it’s a week on Friday, how did this come round so quickly ?

A few of us took the opportunity to head down on Friday and make a proper weekend of it.

We all assembled with everyone looking their absolute best, it’s so good to catch up as most of us part company in September after Hot Rod Drags and don’t see each other again until now, time to tell our stories of how and what we have been doing over this long cold winter, expectations on team planning and expected performance levels even to where they hope to end up in the Championship for 2025.

The facility is always laid out beautifully and we managed to find some real good old CD’s playing media on the big screen and recreating memories that feel like yesterday as well as some cracking streaming from YouTube from 2024, it all makes the night come together.

The trophy presentations kicked of around 7.30 with the first two trophies being provided by the class sponsor from 2024, TMC, Tony Morris Carburettors with RDR Performance Carburettors in conjunction with Dave Gibbons, there were two categories, the first was “Rising Star” and the second was “Personal Achievement” these “Awards” are now traditional, manifesting themselves as “Graham Durbridge” CARtoons, personalised Tee-Shirts and some cash, the artwork delivered with these Special awards are by far outstanding and very special.

Both the recipients had very little idea that these awards were heading their way, the first award of Rising Start was presented to a very surprised Ben Montgomery and as you can see in the pictures a very happy young man, he has had a steady path of improvement throughout the time spent in the class and supported entirely by his close family and his lovely lady Kyra, we wish him the very best for 2025, secondly the award for Personal Achievement went to Martyn Payne a long time member of Outlaw Anglia and proving to himself (with a Roar)  the whole team including Ma Julie he is the man for the job with some storming runs in 2024, well done to both.

We welcome TMC and RDR as again this year’s class sponsors for 2025, I for one would like to thank them for all they do for the class, please remember if you need any help with anything carburettor wise these are the chaps to reach out to.  The next stage was to present by Martyn Payne the Outlaw Anglia Championship Awards, in the end a close race for the top 6 positions.

In 3rd place just pipping Rob Stone into 4th pace was a worthy winner Wayne Power, well done Wayne, as most of you know Wayne has purchased a new car for this coming season and will be getting to grips with the car in the coming months, we wish him all the very best

In 2nd place was Ben Kennedy who had pushed so hard all season with his fantastic Lexus powered V8 Anglia, ending up with a new PB for both speed and ET at Hot Rod Drags last year, he is continuing his development of this engine of choice and fully intends to find out the limitations of this combination, again we wish Ben and his team and family all the very best.

In 1st place was Colin Millar (myself) as always, I just love being in the mix and for sure 2025 will be a very different experience for me and the team with fingers crossed we get to explore a few new tracks and make some new acquaintances and friendships along the way.

The penultimate award of the evening is the “Reaction Time Trophy”, provided by Racheal and Mark Bracking (thanks again folks) and this is based on the three best reaction times for the non-MSA events during the first round of eliminations, it was very close between the top four teams with only thousands of a second separating them but the outright winner was Rob Brindle, very well done Rob and we wish you and the team all the very best for 2025.

The final award of the evening is kind off special for two reasons, it’s in fond memory of Scott who was a real-life size character and was a big part of the crewing team for Ginner and is sorely missed and secondly this award is voted for purely by the Outlaw Anglia drivers and crew, so it’s very personal to all the winners since 2018 after Scott’s passing.

This year by a unanimous vote the award was presented to Ben Montgomery, Ben was taken by surprise but for me it couldn’t go to a better recipient, well done again Ben.

With that we signed off the microphone and filled our bellies with a sit-down meal which I must say was fabulous food combined with good service.

Once the plates were cleared the Outlaw Anglia family do what they do best, PARTY, maybe I’m biased but I have to say I didn’t see anyone that didn’t have a big smile on their face and was able just to let go and make the night what it should be, FUN fun fun.

Pretty sure there were some sore heads in the morning at breakfast, but we all put on a brave face and pretended we were in perfect condition lol.

Hopefully we will catch up with a few like-minded folks at Springspeed Nationals, so with that good luck to all the teams racing and see you at the track xx

Melbourne Raceway’s PortaTree timing system.
17th March 2025

Thanks to former Eurodragster.com editor Andy (Tog) Rogers for this news update on his visit to Melbourne Raceway at the weekend. Tog writes:

Melbourne Raceway’s new PortaTree timing system was unboxed and had its first exposure to the bracing Yorkshire air this weekend. The Christmas Tree, timing module, sensors, control boxes and cables made daunting viewing to begin with but as parts emerged from their boxes they were found to be clearly and logically labelled and on Sunday morning the Straightliners crew of Trevor Duckworth, Martyn Greathead and Paul Cumpstone were able to lay out a simple mock-up in front of race control.

There is a lot of work yet to do; a protective cover for the start line beams and brackets for the emitter/receiver units at 60, 330, 594 and 660 feet are being fabricated and the race computer is being populated with classes and racers. The plan is for the system to be fully set up and tested when windows are available on the facility in the week leading up to the  Spring Nats on 12th-13th April.

There are regular pre-season work weekends at Melbourne Raceway; this weekend for example the volunteers present applied stain to the grandstand seats and fencing and cut grass borders, amongst other jobs. If you can spare some time in coming weekends to help to prepare the facility for 2025 then keep an eye on the Melbourne Raceway Community Facebook page at this link.

Eurodragster visits John Woolfe Racing and Allard II rebuild.
11th March 2025

On Sunday 23rd February the Eurodragster editorial team members Chris Winn, Graham Watkinson and Dave Nelson visited long-time supporter and proud sponsor Dave Riswick of John Woolfe Racing for the annual visit and to see the progress on the Allard II dragster.

John Woolfe Racing was created back in 1967 when the late John Woolfe started a race team with a view to entering long distance sports car events. He was very keen on speed trials, hill climbs, and sprinting and his first project consisted of two 7 litre Shelby AC Cobras, followed by a Repco Brabham V-8 powered Chevron. More performance cars followed which led to the use of large displacement V-8 engines which he brought in from America. As a consequence of this, John also began importing and selling speed equipment, customizing and high-performance products to his fellow race competitors and by the end of the 1960’s John Woolfe Racing, as an American parts supply business, had become firmly established.

Eurodragster.com published back in December 2024 an article from John Woolfe Racing regarding the restoration of the Allard II dragster. the article mentioned that they need to track down the the 354 Cu In Chrysler POTVIN inlet manifold.

With help of the article Dave and the team at John Woolfe Racing found the manifold which is pictured on the left with the editorial team.

Dave writes: On the 4th February Steve Green arrived at JWR unannounced and presented Dave with a Chrysler Potvin inlet manifold.  SHOCK SET IN !

The plea on Eurodragster made a world of difference as I.C.E. Automotive Race Engine builder Rob Loaring took notice as he was the person who rebuilt the first Allard Dragster 354 Chrysler engine some ten plus years earlier and this POTVIN was a left over from those days and sat up in his loft completely forgotten.

Rob contacted Steve Green and asked him to pop over for a chat and the next thing you know Rob produces this rare item and said this might be what John Woolfe Racing are looking for. Then Steve mentions that Dave is looking for some one to build another for Allard II, so watch Eurodragster for chapter two.

Showtime Racing returns!
10th March 2025

Thanks to Santa Pod Raceway Neale Saunders and The Showtime Racing team media Séan Kevin Bowe for this announcement on Showtime Racing returns. Séan writes: The Showtime Racing Fuel Funny Car makes its return to the European Drag Racing scene, with Bob Jarrett as team owner and NHRA veteran Terry Haddock as driver!

Bob has acquired the complete operation from Speedghost Motorsport and Patrik Pers, which includes Europe’s quickest and fastest Fuel Funny Car! Patrik set both ends of the European Funny Car record last September with a 4.169/303.05mph.

With the acquisition comes crew members Mark Bodimeade, Michael McDonald and Joe Cowen. The team also welcomes Adam Clayton, Jake Clayton and Bill Sherratt. Séan Bowe will be covering everything through the medium of video for the team’s social media on Facebook and Instagram.

We will race at all four races on the Funny Car Cup calendar in 2025. The Festival of Power, the Main Event, Bug Jam and the European Finals.  With the amount of runs Terry has under his belt, his experience in Fuel Funny Car racing will go unmatched in 2025 and will be incredibly beneficial in our goal of securing that #1 on the side of the car come season’s end.

We are so incredibly excited to see what we can do in the Funny Car Cup in 2025.  Stay tuned to our channel as we will be releasing the artwork of the 2025 Showtime Racing Funny Car in the next few days.

Neale writes:  Jarrett, known for his long-standing involvement in UK Funny Car racing with his Showtime Racing Funny Car operations, brings a wealth of experience and passion to his new project. With his expertise and leadership, the team is set to build upon its success and push for the series win in the Funny Car Cup in his first year of competition.

As part of this transition, NHRA Funny Car driver Terry Haddock will be taking the wheel of Bob Jarrett's Showtime Racing Funny Car for all four races of the Funny Car Cup, beginning with the Festival of Power over the Easter weekend. Haddock, who was the tuner behind the 303mph run in 2024, brings invaluable knowledge of the car’s capabilities. This exciting driver change is expected to bring even more experience to the team and further bolster their competitive edge in the series.

"I'm beyond excited to take the reins of such a great, record-setting operation," said Jarrett. "The car has already made history, and my goal is to take the team to even greater heights. With Terry Haddock in the driver’s seat, we're here to win, break records, and put on one hell of a show for the fans!"

With the fastest Funny Car in Europe now under new ownership and an accomplished NHRA driver in the hot seat, the 2025 season promises to be one of the most electrifying yet

Colin and crew head to Gainsville.
10th March 2025

Last week it was Bradenton for the insane Pro Mod event, a few days being tourists then our final destination of our trip, the NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway, their season opener. Over the years I have been extremely fortunate to be friends with many of the team within the NHRA which lead me to visits to join the announcing teams at the Texas Motorplex, U.S. Nationals and the Gators back in 2019. The invitation to join them again in the future was always available to me but after a six-year gap, it was finally time to see if the invite was still open, so one email sent in December was replied to with what basically read as ‘Get your butt over here, we’ll sort the rest’. It won’t surprise you that Ian also has previous trips stateside to be part of the track crew so no surprises when he was asked to join the Gatornationals team for what he thought would be a couple of days….oh no, a full on 4 days on the Start line and that also includes being on the starter button.

Back in 2022 Brian Lohnes was instrumental in setting up D.R.A.G. the Drag Racing Announcers Group. This was a mechanism to not only connect fellow announcers from around the world with regular Zoom meetings to discuss ideas and share experiences, but to also find new talent and future-proof the commentary teams everywhere. This has been a great initiative and has led to the NHRA changing things around a bit. Brian along with Joe Castillo head up the team with Jason Galvin. Jason started is announcing career in 2019 and is a great asset to the team. A name known to many, David Frieburger (Roadkill) starts his NHRA journey this weekend both in the booth and conducting top end interviews. A total natural, and to be back working with Brian is a perfect match. Got a feeling David will be here for many years, I certainly hope so.

I’ve joined a team to cover sportsman racing to add some European flavour to the event. Also with me were Ron Rugless, a divisional announcer with a few years under his belt, but this was his first National event. Great guy, and we talked for ages when not on the mic.

Warren Evans has basically done it all in racing, from announcing to promoting, he’s even been a track owner, so a wealth of experience in every area. An absolute gentleman and to have a very long chat over the air waves yesterday about Santa Pod and European racing was just fantastic.

Most of my commentary was alongside Derek Putnam, web editor and announcer for Sick The Magazine. Those that follow Sick Week and the general drag’n’drive scene will know Derek, and this guy knows his stuff. It’s also his first national event, and it was an absolute joy calling the action alongside Derek. I really hope this is just the start of his NHRA career, he’s certainly more than capable and deserves to be part of the team.

Fair to say the weather hasn’t been kind, we basically lost yesterday to rain with just one round of sportsman eliminations almost completed. Friday Pro-qualifying saw a new outright Pro Stock car et record set by Greg Anderson with a superb 6.443 pass.

Austin Prock had a ‘moment’ in Funny Car when the ring gear in the rear axle failed, a huge oil-down and from 330’ to the finish with gear oil resulting in a long clean up and a huge amount of work for the team to replace the complete back axle. Bizarrely, Austin did everyone a huge favour and the delay created a nighttime fuel qualifying session which we all love.

As I sit here in the impressive tower here at Gainesville awaiting today's eliminations to get under way, I can only say a huge thank you to everyone here for their hospitality and help with getting us to the event. It’s been an honour to call so many classes and action here, it’s a memory and experience that I’ll treasure forever.

Great to see so many European racers here, all getting their racing fix in before our season starts in a few weeks. The journey home starts tomorrow evening, and it’s been an amazing trip with a great bunch of guys.

Jade Race is back!
10th March 2025

Thanks to Benny Voss and Tog for these words. As this story is almost a fairy tale, it has to begin with:  Once upon a time, there was a young valiant from Frisia in north Germany. He was the proud owner and tuner of a VW Polo 86C, the first to turbo his steed more than 30 years ago. When duelling tournaments on public pathways got too dangerous, he went for thrills, quick times and high speeds on airfields, and was very fond of the famous Jerry Lackey Raceway at MZA Luckau, which was prepared by Frans Steilberg from the MSTO crew.

But the pathway toward the east of Germania was a long and hard one, and with an almost unused airfield close to his home, he approached the (land)lords of Mariensiel near Wilhelmshaven, only a few feet away from the Jade Bay of North Sea and thus, Jade Race was born in 2008 and, over more than a decade of successful events, grew from humble “Public Race” and, “Run what you brung“ into a full-blown Drag Race, sanctioned by German motorsports authorities. When the cars & bikes that went up north got more and more powerful, the traction limits of an un-prepped track threw a spanner into the works, but Micha Behrens, the driving force behind Jade Race, faced that challenge and built his own track-prep equipment : a rubber sled with glue spray bar and Europe's first counter rotator for applying loads of rubber in a short prep time. With these tools and the know-how of  “black track magic“, he made the Jade track quicker and safer than before, attracting more & more racers & riders from Germany and other European countries. When in 2019 the track was relaid with fresh, straight and smooth asphalt, a dream came true for the organizer crew and the racing community, and they lived happily ever after................well, not quite.

Evil forces raised their heads and for fear of devastating "their precious," ground, the racers were banned from the site by the ruling landlords, followed by the COVID plague and all the taboos and forbiddances that were applied. Jade Race seemed to be just another legend and gone forever. The Jade Race Crew roamed the land, searched near and far, in all directions, but their grail quest in search of the praised lands of a flat and long track was without avail. The track prep crew morphed into "soldiers of fortune" providing their services and consultations to other tracks, making them quicker and safer, keeping contact with the racing tribe, but every time they were asked about "Jade Race reloaded"  it was like a dagger to the heart, as this was just a memory now, gone forever. Being stubborn frisians, they also kept contact with their old Jade track, still hoping to return to their spiritual home to worship the gods of speed, power and thrills, but it seemed the situation was set in concrete, like the walls they used to erect for racing.

But this fairy tale has a happy ending, in a miraculous turn of the tide the ruling lords of the country and airport thought better and better about Jade Race. Maybe they realized that these feasts of flames, speed and power did positive for the whole province, rising the numbers in hotel nights and on the till receipts of many a local company and business. Some of the Jade Race pilgrims had made it a rule to spend a few days of peaceful rest in the green pastures around Jade Bay after the tournament.

So, on a dark winter night in 2024, a new contract was signed, and the Jade Race Crew is proud to shout out into the world : Jade Race is back on track, on the usual date of "third weekend of July!" Carve the date of 18th,19th and 20th day of the seventh month in your calendar, sharpen your blades, saddle the horses or hitch them up to your transport chariot and set the compass to Frisia for "Jade Race 202,", hooray !!!

This fairy tale was written and brought to you by Jade Race chronicler Benni Voss

  • £10pp Camping.
  • £10 Spectators.

Please see terms and conditions below:

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

*Gate Entry*

No tickets - there will be a list of entrants on the gate. When arriving at the security gate please give the booked on drivers full name and then they will tick you off for any crew as they come in they will be ticked off as crew 1 2 3 4 etc. If your name isn’t on the list you won’t be allowed in, the gate staff have my number and will call me if there is any issues. Its open pitting for racers but most usually pit behind the grandstand or on the opposite area of the pairing lanes.

Sunday Camping Arrivals – Racers/Crews who have paid for camping can enter from approx 6pm onwards however as there is a large event on the racing needs to finish and the site needs to be cleared before we are allowed in. However Santa Pod are organised with this but it may mean a wait outside the gates.

Monday Racer/Crew & Spectator Arrivals - Gates open at 8am.

*Sign on procedure & Race Numbers*

Track sign on is done via the signing on office where you will need to present your license and signing on form. The sign on forms will be in the sign on office. I do have a email version of you want to print before you come. You will need driver license.

Please let me know if you need me to email the form and I will do. I do carry some spares if anyone needs one and there is some worst case in the sign on office but please print at home if you can.

*Racing*

The day runs on RWYB ruling so please familiarise yourself with the rules so that you can meet any requirements.

See RWYB Rules- https://rwyb.co.uk/rules.php

RACE NUMBERS - A lot of the racers have there own race numbers on their vehicle so please use this for the day. If you don't have a number and want to create your own I would advise using your initials and then a number just so it is unique to you and the tower staff don't have any issues on the day. I will provide a pen on the day so we can write names on the back of your car if not they will use your reg numbers.

The track will be prepped and run as best as seen fit by the Santa Pod track crew. To meet everyone's testing needs we will run 1 Lane for treaded tyres and 1 Lane for slick tyres and then towards the end of the day open up both lanes for some grudge racing, this way gives everyone a fair crack to the best track for their application. Only cars that are paid onto the event will be permitted on track. Anyone caught trying to race who isn’t part of the event won't be coming back and will be told to leave immediately. Please don’t abuse our trust. The track usually opens around 9.30 and closes at around 5pm with a half hour lunch break for the staff.

Passengers Runs

I have no issue with anyone having a passenger ride in any of the racers cars. You will need to sign on as a passenger in the sign on office and meet Santa Pods criteria.

*Rain/Dryer situation*

If we have a rain off situation on the day no refunds or credits are given and no date change etc as the track is a one off private booking unfortunately. The track crew will do their best to get us racing however we have to be patient as we all know safety is 100% priority. Their is the possibility of using the jet dryer worst case but that would be an external cost which would be separate to Racer entry and would need to be decided on the day if we called a drivers meeting.

*Behaviour*

Please behave as adults and no foolishness its simple. If anything gets reported to me or the Santa Pod staff then I give my full backing if required to have anyone removed from the site or any racing will stop until the situation has been sorted. Please when camping have a few beers and enjoy the evening calmly security will be on site so don't want phone calls saying people are messing about revving engines and generally being idiots towards the Santa Pod staff.

Hospitality

The Santa Pod shop will be open for Nitrous and Fuel and merchandise snack etc, they do ask that you ring ahead if any fuel/Nitrous is wanted to make sure they have stock. The burger van by the grandstand will also be open. Toilets blocks will be open.

Manston Raceway Park update.
6th March 2025

Thank to Paul Marston for sending in this update on Manston Raceway Park, Paul writes:

We have been placing buildings and Crash barrier at Manston Raceway Park. With trips to Manchester and Colchester to collect Equipment we need. Cannot Thank our crew at Manston enough. Also to the wider racing community who have gone above and beyond to help and support us over the past few weeks.

Lastly we will have another work party weekend at Manston Raceway Park in March Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th. Bring paint brushes!! If you can make it please let us know via the Manston Raceway Park's Facebook Page at this email at this link or call Paul on 07831 650230.

STAFF VACANCIES AT MANSTON RACEWAY PARKOur race season kicks off April 11th -13th 2025 and we are now at a stage where we need some volunteers who are interested in helping us run the racetrack on event weekends.

We are running 7 events during the year, so the ability to make all the dates would be useful, but not essential. This is a grassroots track, we need some dedicated enthusiasts to help us run this facility in a professional manner. Previous experience would be useful, but not essential, as full training will be given.

We have vacancies in the following areas: Startline and Fire Crew, Track crew/Cleanup crew, Lane Marshalls, Signing on Office, Car Parking Stewards, Timing Crew, Race Director, Refuse Collection, General Hand Stewards on and off track duties, Colour Commentators and Security Stewards for Front Gate.

We need enthusiasts, who want to do this for the love of the sport and are not in it for the money, as to start with at least. We can only cover expenses at best. So living locally in the Kent area is preferable, but not essential.

Please email by clicking here or call Paul on 07831 650230.

Colin heads west to the USA for a pre-season break.
4th March 2025

Thanks to Colin Theobald, colour commentator and Santa Pod stalwart for his words as he heads across the pond for a pre-season visit to the World Series of Pro Mod in Bradenton:

As the U.K. National Championship drag racing season doesn’t get under way until the Springspeed Nationals at Santa Pod many Brits and quite a few European racers and fans could be found in Florida attending the season opening N.H.R.A. Gatornationals this week or last weekend at Bradenton for the climax of the Winter Series with the World Series of Pro Mod to get their racing fix in before the fun starts at home. 82….yes, 82 Outlaw Pro Mod teams on site to try and make the top 32 to qualify for eliminations to be in with a chance to win the staggering $150,000 outright event winner prize.

I watched this event on-line last year and couldn’t help seeing everyone’s social media posts about it and put it on the bucket list of events I had to attend. I did some initial reaching out to friends in America to see what options were available to me and of course having to get agreement from my wife Clare to go on the trip. The other part was who else would want to go. The sort-of call out on Facebook to see if anyone was up for 12 days away yielded results very quickly with U.K. Pro Mod racer Dave Smith, (Stranger Thing 55 Chevy) was keen to go having never seen racing in the USA. Perfect, had a travelling companion so accommodation booked, hire car booked flights booked all by early January.

Then things got even more interesting with Dave’s crew Cheif John Sturnham and his son Liam wanted in as well so we are up to 4, then SPRC’s Ian Marshall rang me out of the blue asking about the trip….we were up to 5. Various phone calls to the regular Florida visitors for advice led me to striking gold on Air B&B with a stunning 4 bedroom Villa in Bradenton, about 20 minutes from the track and it worked out cheaper than 2 hotel rooms, right result and had its own pool, so accommodations changed from our original plans. Anyway, enough waffle, you get the picture.

Onto day one at Bradenton and wow…..through the gates, and we were greeted with the Pro Mods in the lanes for Q1, a sight to behold. There are seriously awesome race cars, don’t forget this event is over the 1/8th mile, so absolutely no room for error here, especially with a field that would be so closely matched. The numbers were insane. Yes, these cars are outlaw so around 200lb lighter than a FIA legal car and have all the gizmos and sensors to keep this thing planted to the racetrack, but to see a Pro Mod go 3.644 at 205 over the 1/8th was completely nuts for the provisional no.1. Bump sport was 3.684, yep, just 4/100 covering the top 32. Scary moment in Q2 with the very popular Scott Palmer having a major incident in the shutdown area, thankfully the safety cell did its job and Scott managed to walk away from a totally destroyed racecar.

After Q2 it was one of the favourites, Ken Quartuccio with his blown 69 Camaro on top with a stunning 3.596, the only car in the 3.5’s. Bump now 3.667. Friday and 3 more qualifiers. No change in the top 4 but a good move up the order by Mark Micke into the no.5 spot. Q4 and Mark goes to No.1 with a jaw dropping 3.575 at get this, 223.65mph….to the 1/8th!!! Bump down to 3.649, all to play for on the dark late on Friday in Q5. Every car was now well into the 3’s and some big names were not qualified. There are the fan favourites though, Pro Stock racer Erica Enders made the show in 14th, Stevie ‘Fast’ Jackson in at 10, Alex Laughlin in at 7. The quickest Outlaw Pro Mod field ever, bump ended up at 3.637, what was incredible however was that the top 78 cars all ran 3.69 or quicker. Just bonkers.

Saturday and into random pairings decided by a chip draw saw Mark Micke drawn against Kye Kelley in the second pairing on Saturday morning with Mark taking the win with a 3.610 against Ky’s 3.617, brilliant race. Steve King just held off Cameron Hensley 3.649 against 3.650 and only 0.011 difference in reaction times in Steve’s favour. I was in the right place at the right time to have a front row spot for the E2 chip draw, great fun to witness the pairings being drawn and adds to the excitement. Onto round 3 and the last 8 consisted of Scott Taylor who put Mark Micke back in the trailer, Steve King, Tommy Franklin, Steve Fast, Ken Quartuccio, Erica Enders, Mike Bowman and Jason Harris.

The racing was just amazing, Jason Harris defeated eventual Winter Series points Champion Ken Quartuccio, Steve King ended Erica’s day, Stevie Fast got past Scott Taylor and finally Mike Bowman got there first to beat Tommy. Semi-finals and Steve King was into the final after problems for Jason Harris, Steve running 3.638 for the win. Great race for the other final spot, Mike Bowman with the gorgeous Chevelle got the jump on Steve Fast but couldn’t hold him off, .029 light and a 3.675 not enough against Stevie’s .065 and 3.632 pass. Mov .0.007!!!

The final, $150,000 on the line, Stevie Fast in the 69 Camaro, Steve King in the Corvette. What a final. Dramatic burn down before they went in then race of the day, Stevie Fast away first .029 against .052, Stevie’s engine blew right at the lights, oh so close but your winner is Steve King, 3.629 @ 204.82 against Stevie’s 3.652 @ 203.55, margin of victory 0.0012. What a climax to an incredible event.

Pic right: Kayla Zadel, of Drag Illustrated

Let’s not forget that there were other classes racing as well, we had a second chance Pro Mod shoot out for the cars that didn’t make the top 32, Mountain Motor Pro Stock, Super Pro, Pro 10.5 Challenge, Top Dragster, Lil’Gangsters and Jnr. Dragster, all giving the fans some tremendous racing.

I’ve got to give a huge amount of credit to Wes Buck. His energy, his eagerness, his Startline visits to pump up the racers were a big benefit to the sport. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone more energetic with enthusiasm for what he does. Huge thanks must go to our very own Robin Jackson who introduced me to Kayla Zadel from Drag Illustrated who looked after us so well at the event. To have VIP passes and Start line access was highly appreciated and we look forward to hopefully seeing Kayla and Wes at Santa Pod at some point and return the favour. The whole Drag Illustrated team were very welcoming and what a great bunch of people you are, keep up the great work.

Finally, to all the fellow Brits and European visitors we saw there including Jeff & Belinda Bull, Dave Fulton & Vicky, Lewis Jackson, Michael & Matthew Dowdy, Jimmy Alund, Micke Gullqvist, Adam Flamholc, Stan & Paula Atkin to name but a few, great to spend time with you all, felt like we were at the Pod…..

More news from our trip in a few days as our next stop is Gainesville for the Gatornationals…….

One for Ian Marshall, cars aside, he has to see a tractor.
